I like Maryland in the Big 10. If UNC follows, that would be a sweet B-ball conference. I just miss 10 team conferences; hate conference champ games...look at the mess the Pac 12 is in this year and was in last year with phony UCLA.

Problems there...GT would only leave the ACC for the B1G unless they had no other choice. Academics is a huge factor there. If UNC is not moving to the B1G, the SEC is not going to get NC State since the UNC system controls the politics there. NCSU would likely not be able to leave if UNC/Duke stick with the ACC. If UVa and UNC go to the B1G, the SEC will swoop in for VT and NC State FAST.

Then if that is the case maybe they look West if they cant shake NC Clik. Hi there, OU or FSU if FL doesnt firewall them this time.

If this gives the BIG huge leverage in their upcoming deals, potentially finally opening up the NYC population to college football etc., I can get behind this. The BIG network is great, but with that, the conference has lost a lot of the loyalty from the main stream media outlets (mainly ESPN). They need to make another splash, and potentially getting BIG games on networks like YES can only help IMO

tOSU faithful, what's your feelings on reshuffling the divisions now?
quote:
Jim Delany, time to correct the mistake. What if OSU was eligible to play for the Big Ten title this year? How awful would it be if OSU-Michigan this week was the first of two games, with the two meeting a week later for the Big Ten title? The importance of the legendary rivalry would be squashed. It should be all about geography, while creating as many natural rivalries as possible. If Maryland and Rutgers really are in, put them in the Leaders, and then do some shuffling. Move Michigan to the Leaders to match up with Ohio State, but keep MSU in the Legends and make the Spartans-Wolverines a yearly interdivisional game. Move Wisconsin over to Legends to keep the burgeoning rivalry with the Spartans going. Move Illinois to the Legends for a geographic rivalry against Northwestern and Iowa.
Leaders Indiana Maryland Michigan Ohio State Penn State Purdue Rutgers Legends Illinois Iowa Michigan State Minnesota Nebraska Northwestern Wisconsin

If it comes down to FSU versus OU, I would guess FSU is more likely since internal politics (making UF play along for the good of the conference) is easier than state politics (OU-OSU breakup would cuase uproar). In fact, the SEC taking Okie State (I know, I know) might be easier than OU since...that would open the door for OU and Texas to join the PAC-XX (which never really wanted Okie State).

I'm good with that. It's a bit like the Big 12 when Texas/OK were on the same side. You get a top heavy alignment, but if you're going to play every year, I'd rather be in the same division.

sounds like time for the SEC to grab 16 before we're left with scraps 16 team SEC needs to happen, 14 is unsustainable.

As much as I'd love for the SEC to move more to the west as I now live in Texas, the conference should go NC and VA schools. Also why is Miami never mentioned? Florida is a growing state. Would we consider picking up FSU and Miami?

As most MSB'ers know, I grew up in Maryland and the Terps are my childhood team. I still root for them, but I wouldn't say I follow them. I couldn't tell you their record offhand, for example. Anyway, this is a great move for Maryland, who I know has felt screwed over by the Tobacco Road mob for my entire lifetime. The Big Ten is now just as good of a hoops conference as the ACC, so there's no real fall off in the sport most Terp fans care about. The AD is in better shape than people think. they cut sports mainly because they had too many sports that no one watches. It was a way to bring some fiscal discipline, but this is a school that is bringing in big money from Under Armour. This is a classic case of the Big Ten buying low, as UA is setting themselves up as the rival to Nike. The point here, a lot of cash is getting pumped into Maryland football and there's a lot of TV sets in Baltimore and DC. Also, it helps that Maryland is an AAU school. Academic snobbery achievement, unlocked! Also, there is literally zero chance Maryland has to pay $50 million. that buyout fee won't withstand legal challenge, as its clearly punitive and not related to revenues. And once Maryland negotiates the fee down, it sets a new, lower benchmark for Florida St and Clemson to bolt to the SEC.

I kinda want to make sure I get time off the first time Michigan would get to play Maryland @ Maryland. It would be fun IMO, albeit a bit of a trip

Scheduling is a lot easier with 16 instead of 14. And, strangely enough, easier to come up with a rotation to play everyone in conference. It's sort of like how LSU ended up playing Georgia and Tennessee much more often after the SEC went to 12 teams.
