Also, there is literally zero chance Maryland has to pay $50 million. that buyout fee won't withstand legal challenge, as its clearly punitive and not related to revenues.

Very few people understand that this is exactly right. Most exit fees are negotiated down anyway, even when they are legally proper. Here, they're not even legally proper.

Wasn't Maryland one of two schools to vote against the $50M buyout?

Yes. FSU was the other. What does that tell you?

If I recall correctly, someone at FSU even mentioned that they thought the $50 million wouldn't withstand legal scrutiny.

So has Rutgers approved yet? And I agree that the B1G is becoming a strong basketball conference with football teams.

Maryland won't pay the $50 million but I am curious to see if it will be more than the $20 West Virginia had to pay. I don't see the SEC adding Clemson, not a new market; USCe would be opposed.

Apparently you haven't noticed how fricked the SEC schedules are for next year. 14 teams will bring more of the same every year

Rutgers bog has given the ad full control over conference allegiance. Rutgers said yes before delany could finish the question.

Rutgers is a school that, given the resources of the B1G and the right coach, could be pretty successful. Convince NJ kids to stay (state produces decent talent) and grab some elite athletes from FLA.

and I think Md mentioned it makes it harder for you to expand. The ACC deal with Notre Dame was a joke, giving away the store with no benefit. not surprised to see teams heading for the exits.

Question now is, do FSU and Clemson try and get to the Big 12, since it's likely UF and USCe would fight them getting to the SEC.

Man I hope so - now is the time for the Big12 to put the full court press on these 2 schools, as well as GT, LVille, Miami (yes I know their fans and stadium are a dumpster fire) and one more.

Just my preference, many have different ones they would like to see come to the Big12.

Exactly. That and being in Atlanta is why GT has a shot

Leaders and Legends was moronic from the beginning.

How anyone thought that was a good idea, after nobody can name the divisions in the ACC is beyond me.

The two conferences have been split divisions for 2 years each, and I already could tell you the Pac divisions without a second thought, and Don't have a clue who is in the B1G divisions.

While I think both FSU and CU are cultural fits to the SEC, they don't add markets, so the big 12 is the next best fit. Adding those 2 would give the Big 12 1 more elite level program and another potential one.

I love this move by the big ten! It gets the conference into the DC, Baltimore, NJ/NYC markets. Also, these conferences getting bigger is a by product of what we all wanted....a playoff! In the end these conference championship games are now essentially the first round of a national playoff. All these schools know it and they are positioning themselves for the best chances to be successfull! I love it! I hope these expansions bring an end to the BCS members playing non BCS members! Welcome to the B1G Maryland!

i'm sure if you followed them you'd know the divisions...

the only two conferences i ever figured out the divisions were the Big XII and the SEC

The 14 team SEC is a total abortion. Be careful what you wish for.

FIFY. No chance FSU or Clemson (or GT) get in the SEC.

Nobody knowing the ACC divisions was a punch line for years BEFORE the B1G decided to do the same thing.

I don't have to follow the Pac to know the divisions, just like you didn't need to follow above a casual level to know the divisions in the 12 team SEC and BigXII
