Clay Travis ranked the top 25 college jobs. I'd have Ohio State higher, but overall a pretty solid list.

A&M has a much better recruiting base and generates way more revenue. That's not even arguable. When they redo Kyle Field it will seat on 100K. Arkansas will never be at that level. Will A&M become an elite program? Maybe, maybe not. But unlike Arkansas, they could, that's why it's a much better job. Point out where I'm wrong without bringing up the past on field results. I'm talking about potnetial. 12 years ago everyone said LSU would never be an elite program.

First of all, Texas won't hire Sumlin. That would require them to admit A&M did something right.
Secondly, there is no way Sumlin will go to OU. The next few years Sumlin is basically going to destroy OU's program in the short term by stealing all their talent (that was really A&M's talent to begin with because they are all Texans).
No way Sumlin wants to knock them down then have to build them back up.

It's interesting that with all of the talent and money that the state of Texas has, their teams haven't won more championships.
Who else besides Mack Brown and Darrell Royal have been great coaches at Texas? And why hasn't A&M been able to capitalize on that?

Unlike a state such as Alabama, Texas has many pro teams to consume the passion and the attention of people. College football is number 2 here.

We weren't really in our modern form (as in size and student makeup) until the 1980s. Through the 80s and the 90s we did capitalize to a certain extent, then Fran ruined our program for the most recent decade.

Part of the issue is historically you had so many decent schools in the SWC. In the early days Rice and TCU had some powerhouse teams because private schools actually had better resources than public schools. SMU had a few eras where they were excellent. UH actually had some really stout teams as well and Baylor was a consistent Top 25 team back when Grant Teaff was coach. Mainly though a lot of the talent was dispersed amongst those schools and that meant you had 8 schools plus Arkie, the OK schools, and LSU going after that Texas talent. Sure Texas had the most years on top of the pile but they didn't dominate nearly as much as they act like they did outside of the 60's when the scholarship rules really made the field unbalanced.
Oh and to whomever asked lots of schools would have loved Jackie Sherrill before the NCAA came after him and RC Slocum turned down the Arizona Cardinals job to stay at A&M. Mike Sherman actually turned down the Cleveland Browns job as well.

When the job opens up, Chris Petersen gets the 1st call. Whether he'll take it or not is the question.
As for Patterson, I'm hearing more & more that he's headed to the Ozarks.

Texas fans have been trying to retire Mack for years. They are acting like the dude is 75 years old. Hes basically the same age as miles and saban. He's a terribly underachieving coach, but I don't buy the 'he's tired' BS. Thats the cushest college job in the world. Easy schedule every year, tons of money, great recruiting base, not as much of a demanding fan base as other top jobs. If that dudes tired and worn out, he's just a pussy.

That's not what we are talking about. Past records are largely irrelevant. A&M has more upside, that's not arguable. Whether they take advantage of it is yet to be seen. But yes, being the SEC gives they a leg up. They no have something different to offer than UT. Notice that when the Big 3 in Florida where dominated none of them were in the same conference.

You clearly aren't paying attention. Just look at him this year. He's whining about the LHN. Last week he was whining about meanie's from other teams doing horns down. He just looks like he's worn out. He's probably sticking around for the reason's you mention, but he's been there for almost 15 years, time to move on.

I'm not surprised to see a Bama fan say this given how many questionable titles Alabama claims and that bragging about them is the root of most of your fan base's self worth. UT could claim a lot more.

Dana X Bible is one of the legendary coaches of all time. He coached at both Texas and A&M and even a year at LSU.
Your comment also shows the folly of judging coaches solely on titles in a sport where the National Title has not only always been determined by a popularity contest, but has shifted over time.
For example, Fred Akers was a pretty good coach for UT. He led a #1 ranked team in 1977 to the Cotton bowl, where he lost to Notre Dame. Just 4 years earlier, when 1977 Heisman winner Earl Campbell was HS Sr, Bear Bryant had a #1 ranked team lose to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. However, in 1973 the UPI (coaches poll) still did not do a poll after the bowls, so Bryant gets a split title with an undefeated ND team he lost to in a bowl. The UPI was so embarrassed they started awarding the NC after the bowls like the AP unfortunately for Akers. This was Bryant's 2nd title after losing a bowl and the first of 2 he split with a team that beat him. Royal also had a title with a bowl loss.
So besides Royal and Brown, count Bible and Fred Akers.
