They won't hire him, but Petrino would kick arse there. And frankly, Sumlin would be out of his mind not to listen to Texas if they came calling. Jobs like Texas and bama(and probably Mich, tOSU, OU, and USC) are just too good to turn down if they come calling. If I'm an Aggie though, I'd be more worried about OU poaching Sumlin at some point.

No disrespect to TAMU, but like Arkansas, there are a few jobs out there that are far more prestigious.

Agee, but Sumlin has them headed in the right direction in a hurry.

Texas needs to make the right hire and do it soon because A&M is closing ground. Both teams are 7-2, but all the talk is about the Aggies.

A&M football coaches don't get poached anymore. We do the poaching. Are there a few more prestigious jobs? Maybe, but there is no other place to match the opportunity. If a coach wins a Natty at A&M they can become THE legend and they will have everything at their disposal to continue to be successful. At Bama they will always have the Bear. At OU they will always have Wilkinson. At Texas they will always have DKR. At A&M you can actually be THAT guy. A&M also won't be outbid if that is the issue, we have had the highest paid coach in CFB before and will do it again if need be (A&M gave Jackie Sherrill the first ever million dollar contract in 1982. Less known is A&M had Bo Schembechler at a verbal agreement and ready to board a plane from Ann Arbor until he backed out, Jackie was the backup plan).

Being the only SEC school in Texas is awfully hard to walk away from if you are doing well. Sumlin is already looking like he may be doing more selecting than recruiting for 2014. What do you think happens when he actually wins something that matters?

They suck but they are already 7-2, not sure why you laugh at his prediction.

Things are different now. A&M is in the SEC, makes a big difference than being in the same conference with Texas. The SEC is THE conference in college football.

This. This is not your father's Aggie coach and team. ALL of my 'horn friends are paying close attention...

See your post was teetering on the edge of believable to delusional until you added that part.

Texas A&M is a program on the rise. The piggies can think they are on the same level but they are not. Sumlin would not go to Texas, all this more prestigious stuff is not looking at it the right way. Yes, Texas is a "better" job, but not so much so that someone that's building at A&M is leaving for that. I don't know if it's his dream job, but when he was at UH, Sumlin talked about A&M more than any other school. If he is rolling at A&M he's not going to get lured away to OU either.

I don't think he was underestimating A&M at all. Do you disagree there are a few more jobs out there that are far more prestigious?

I missread your post. my bad.

I could see OU making a run for him but I don't think it will matter. He's going to have just as much success at A&M as he would at OU.

When, if ever, have you Aggies lived up to your over-hyped sense of 'potential.'

Texas is a better job over all; more revenue, biggest dog in the state. When have you ever surpassed them for more than a brief period of time?

No one said Arkansas was. Just that about Arkansas and TAM are on the same level.

yes, but that doesn't mean a coach will automatically leave for one of those jobs. Texas is arguablly the best job in college FB, that doesn't mean every other coach will just hop if they came calling. Nevermind the fact that Texas is not going to go after him. Sumlin can win at A&M if he does he won't leave.

Please re-read my posts, my friend. Never said Arkansas was a better job.

I believe that Texas, bama, and the like are better jobs than TAMU though. I suspect that most non-ags would agree with this.

Doesn't mean that Sumlin won't do a great job for you, or that he will be poached by a more prestigious school. Understand now?
