I am extremely naive to the genre but who does the Board consider the best right now? The up an comer? The trusty old faithful?

Seeing alot of talk of Charlie Robison, REK, Pat Greene, RR band lately. Looking to get feet wet.

Turnpike troubadours are the best doing it right now. Jason boland is and always will be at the top as well.

Check out American aquarium as well

Early Jack Ingram is another good one. My favorite album of his is "Lonesome Question".

Todd Snider could be thrown in there with the McMurtry/Hayes Carll group. Even though he's from the west coast and lives in Nashville now, he was based out of texas for a while. He straddles the country/folk fence.

Waylon Jennings? He was basically a founder of Texas Country. And Willie Nelson too. Technically, you could also say David Allan Coe, although he isn't from Texas. Maybe could add Kris Kristofferson, but he did a little of everything.

Definitely Lyle Lovett. Roger Creager is more modern Texas Country.

Up and Coming: Turnpike Troubadours is the best of the new ones. I like Zac Walther Band and Emory Quinn too.
Best of the past 10 years: Jason Boland, Aaron Watson, Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers Band
Old Faithful: Boland could probably be in this category

lots of great posts, so I'll just add:

REK .. love his recordings, live shows are hit or miss. Main thing about live is don't have expectations of a high energy show.

Pat Green .. ok, I get he 'sold' out, but I question whether we as fans should begrudge any artist for expanding his base / career for the sake of being 'loyal' to his roots; so he leaned Pop Country and made some $$. btw, there are two Pat Green's .. the drunk, unshaven one that plays the Varsity and the clean-cut, sober one that plays Hard Rock Casino. I prefer the former.

Roger Creager .. should get more love for his 'live shows' .. they are high energy, which is my preference.

L Boogie .. yeah, she pisses me off, too.

eta: I'm now getting Randy Rogers Band advertisements from Tigerdroppings ..
