Looking to get one for the cajun microwave and smoker. I have one of the $10 pieces from Wal-Mart. Time to upgrade.

I'm thinking this looks like a good one and relatively cheap. Two probes and a remote.

Anybody have any other recs?

I've had the one in the photo for probably 4-5 years now and haven't had any issues with it. And it's still accurate despite my habit of getting drunk while cooking and continually dropping it.

Nice. That's good to know as I'm sure mine will suffer the same fate.

Nice. I'm in the market for one as well.

I'm also good for grabbing the screaming hot probe with my bare hands once a year or so (again, usually drunk).

There's one with an iPhone app but it costs $100 and, I believe, only has one probe. Saw it in the apple store one day.

I think I might try yours out. Can't beat the price and free shipping with my amazon prime account.

Maverick - ET-732 - Wireless BBQ Thermometer Set

The best fifty bucks you'll spend. This bad boy is better than others because the food probe withstands 700 degrees, as opposed to the cheaper ones which fry themselves just under 400 degrees. I use it with whole birds and roasts in my oven, but it's designed for the BBQ since it has a pit probe as well so you can monitor both the internal temp and the pit temp from the remote...up to 300 feet...with an LED light...and you can set a warning beep for both pit and internal temps, so it will tell you when the food is done or if your heat source is varying hot or cold.

Like I said, the best fifty dollar kitchen item out there.

I haven't cooked anything over 500 degrees that I needed a thermometer for that I can think of.

Both rigs have attached thermometers on them, but it would be cool to have it on the remote.

I went ahead and ordered the other one already though . I think it will be cool.

Good call on the temp limitations. I really only use mine for smoking/BBQ. I never use it in my Weber kettle grill cause I know I'd fry it.

I don't cook over 500 degrees either, but most probes will fail at 400, which means that I've lost a couple when simply roasting a whole chicken. I finally got wise and bought what I think is the best available. The 300 foot range is priceless when the pit is going and I'm in the depths of my house working on other things.

Dont get oregon scientific brand. Had one go bad, took forever for them to send a replacement under warranty and it was bad right out of the box.

And by that you mean soaking up some A/C and drinking a cold beer, right?

Exactly. In other words, preparing to pick up the 300 degree probe, sling it in the air as he's jumping up and down, and watch it hit the concrete but not care. Then look around to see if anybody watched the shenanigans. I've never done that

Oh good times.

Where did you get the Maverick? I can't tell you how many probes I have burned through on my BGE. However, I use mine a lot.

Amazon

You can get cheaper models, but the probes will fail. Since I burned through two cheaper models, I bought this and have never had a problem. I even bought a back up probe just in case mine failed during a major BBQ, but it's still new in the box because the original works fine.

I wish I could steer everyone toward this model.

Especially if you use yours a lot. Like I've said, you'll look back and see it one of your best cooking investments.
