re: NFL presented Vilma w/sworn affidavit of GW stating Vilma offered 10k for Favre

I am sorry guys. I would never hurt or injure another human being. I am just tired of Goodell acting unfairly towards my team. Meanwhile Goodell smirks and acts like he is God incarnate. There is a place for corrupt individuals like that. O.k...it is going to cost the Saints a season of misery. Hopefully, Drew and the Crew makes Goodell and his NFL cronies ashamed when we win another SB.

This reminds me of when Principal Anderson told the local media that he accepted money from Billy Madison in return for passing grades. That Eric sure is one big fricking weasal.

New PFT article tearing this apart

Mike motherfricking Florino

Timing of Gregg Williams affidavit raises plenty of questions

I think Goodell and the NFL just made the biggest mistake so far, what a bunch of morons

even the media is calling them out now

re: NFL presented Vilma w/sworn affidavit of GW stating Vilma offered 10k for Favre

I wasn't gonna start a whole thread on this article.
But since this thread is a lively discussion of all things Goodell, I might as well post it.
Bill Simmons posted an article on Grantland discussing how the league is using big offensive plays and pass-happy quarterbacks to distract attention away from concussions.

quote:

When baseball antagonized fans with the '94 strike, the sport eventually recovered by juicing baseballs and becoming more lenient with performance-enhancing drugs... If the 32 owners wanted to distract fans the way baseball did, they would probably take the following four steps.

quote:

1. Allow their arrogant commissioner to bestow himself with unprecedented power without any real checks and balances.
Oh wait, they did that! Roger Goodell can do whatever he wants. It's amazing. He changes the rules as he goes along like he's the Bachelor Pad producer or something. If the NFL's commissionership worked like the American presidency, can you imagine the attack ads that Goodell's competitor could run during the 2012 election?
Would there be an easier incumbent candidate to topple? After the way he handled this Saints debacle, I'm seriously starting to wonder if he's the worst sports commissioner of my lifetime.

quote:

2. Pull a Joe McCarthy and scapegoat a signature team for being "too violent," whether they have enough evidence or not, just to prove that they're taking things seriously now and stuff.
Oh, wait, they did that, too. (Cut to everyone in New Orleans nodding.)

quote:

3. Lowball their officials even though the league makes billions of dollars — literally, billions and billions of dollars — and bring in a slew of inferior replacements so writers, bloggers and talking heads will waste millions of hours venting about shoddy officiating and how "THE LEAGUE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING!!!"
Oh, wait, they did that, too! I mean … there can't possibly be any other explanation for lowballing your officials when they make a pittance compared to your overall profits and the well-being of your players, right?

quote:

4. Execute their version of "juicing the balls" by doing everything possible to ensure that "5,000 passing yards is the new 4,000" and maybe even have one of their stars flirt with 6,000 yards this season.
How could the league help us get [a QB to 6000 yards a season]? By subtly changing contact rules so only truly talented defensive backs can actually cover somebody. By protecting quarterbacks in the pocket to comical degrees. By overreacting with a massive fine every time a defensive back can't change the trajectory of a tackle at the last possible split second as a receiver is ducking, making all the defensive backs so gun-shy that every game turns into a faster version of the Pro Bow— Oh, wait, they've done all of those things!

Bill Simmons gets it, you guys.

When do we get to see the evidence that implicates Payton and Loomis? Where is the evidence that they were told to stop something that may or may not have been happening?

You all do realize the way our season has started has something to do with the ramifications from GoodellGate, right?
How are we fans going to be compensated for this?
How are the Saints going to be compensated for this?

We're not going to be compensated for it. We've been put at a incredible competitive disadvantage. I, like many other, underestimated the effect of losing CSP for the year.

As much as we miss SP (that is NOT a surprise to any reasonable person) we are a play or two in each loss away from victory. No reason to panic yet.
You bet your sweet bippee we're at a disadvantage. If the end result of RogerGate sides with the Saints then the Saints need and must be compensated for their losses. How does Drew Brees get compensated for the sacrifice of a year in his presitgous career by not having his mentor and Coach?
My fear is that the NFL is so powerful that far too many sources don't want to see it's armor chinked...protection for the credibility of the league, so to speak. If the NFL goes down I believe a new league would have to be birthed...sort of like Penn State football having to be rebirthed after their scandal.
There is so much at stake here.

that's more or less my fear. goodell and the nfl are pot committed, so to speak. at this point they've done clear and irreparable harm to the organization (lost draft picks, lost personnel and staff, arguably lost games) so they've got to prove that they had something to justify the punishments. if they can't, a whole new can of worms gets opened.

i hate to sound like a conspiracy nut, but the reality is that there are a lot of people with various personal and professional connections who could see it as Best For The League if the saints just eat the bullet on this one now that its gotten this far.

I just saw on SportsCenter that Ginsberg subpoenaed (sp?) GW to testify on behalf of Vilma against Goodell a week ago!
Roger got GW to sign in an effort to convolute Ginsberg's case.
The smoke just continues to get thicker and thicker.

Aside from any opinion of Williams and his credibility, Williams states in his affidavit that the Saints did not pay for illegal hits or plays that were deemed outside the rules. Does that eliminate "pay to injure?"
