re: Steven Jackson and his place in NFL History

Consistency just got Curtis Martin into the HoF... Jackson has 7 straight season of 1k or more yards currently. His main hindrance is lack of touchdowns only getting double figures in 1 season so far. But say he has 3 more seasons of 1k or more yards and 5 touchdowns per and then a couple more seasons of 500-700 yards and 5 touchdowns. He would be in the top 5 all time in rushing yards and top 50 in touchdowns.

I think you're overrating Rickey William's NFL career a little.

I wasn't questioning you directly, I just wanted to see the min attempts and stuff. Tarkenton ftw!

I was gonna say the same thing.
To me if you put him on a good team he would go down as a great but the team is keeping him down

Lots of names on that list that haven't done what SJax has done. He's been the only constant performer on a bad team for his entire career, but I'm not surprised to see dumb shite from one of your posts.

Even Curtis Martin had 3 great seasons Jackson has 1. Jackson is a consistently above average player but FAR from great.

You're crazy Brian Westbrook was the most explosive player in the NFL at one point.
At one point. He had only 2 years over 1,000 yards. In 9 years in the NFL, he has 3,000 yards less than S-Jax.
Again, Holmes was pretty much made of glass. When healthy, he was a beast.

I'm not saying he's a bad back, don't get me wrong. Consistency for an NFL RB can put you into the HOF. In fact, I believe that is one of the best ways to rate a RB. It's just that he has been consistently good, not consistently great.

Martins value came in scoring, he consistently put up double digit touchdowns. Two straight seasons of 14 and many seasons where he came close to 10 even eclipsing 10 in two more seasons. Martin was also a work house who was a consistent 300 carry back and he managed a 4.0 career YPC.
Martin is a better back than many people realize but Jackson is a better back than many people you have listed already.

Ricky Williams ran for 1800+ yards and had 5 other 1000 yard seasons and did it on worse offenses than Jackson had.

If Jackson can hit just 3800 yards (he is 28 remember that) it would place him between Dickerson and Dorsett at #7 on all time NFL rushing list....
5009 would put him at #4 on all time NFL rushing yards
5009 would put him at #4 on all time NFL rushing yards

There is a case-- mostly based on the likelihood of certain things coming to pass.
It's not outrageous, but neither is it convincing yet. If he put up 3 more 1,100 yard seasons, he'd pass Jim Brown and be a Top 10 career rusher in terms of yardage.
Is he as great as the truly great, like Brown? No-- but the statistical accumulators who fall in that same sphere-- Clinton Portis, Dillon, Taylor, James, Dunn, Waters, George, Barber, etc-- all would be firmly behind Jackson.

Holmes was a first team all pro 3 years in a row I don't think anybody has done that since. To put that in perspective in those 3 years Holmes had more tds than Jackson has in his entire career. Nuff said
From 03-08 Westbrook had 9000+ total yards and 64 total tds and did it with minimal touches

Williams:
2009 Dolphins 15th total offense 7-9
2008 Dolphins 21st total offense 11-5
2007 Dolphins 26th total offense 1-15
2006 Dolphins 29th total offense 6-10
2005 Dolphins 16th total offense 9-7
2003 Dolphins 17th total offense 10-6
2002 Dolphins 12th total offense 9-7
2001 Saints 13th Total offense 7-9
2000 Saints 10th total offense 10-6
2004 Rams 16th Total Offense 8-8
2005 Rams 11th total offense 6-10
2006 Rams 10th total offense 8-8
2007 Rams 28th total offense 3-13
2008 Rams 30th total offense 2-14
2009 Rams 32 total offense 1-15
I think your point has been proven wrong but I can continue since Williams then went to Baltimore

Four other 1000 yard seasons, one of which was exactly 1,000 yards.
He also went completely insane, and fricked over the Miami Dolphins one year.

The Dolphins going 1-15 without him proves my point

SJax, if nothing else, will be remembered as a true workhorse. That phrase gets thrown around a lot, but he is literally all that offense can depend on.

So, with Rickey Williams they become a 5-11 team?
