With all these "you must not spend any time in Texas" comments about the games don't make much sense to me. My HS is a UIL 5A school and students and families went to the game but noone else really.

All these mega-stadiums and Texas football in general is mostly in the suburbs where you ahve to drive through 3 or 4 other suburbs before you actually get into the city center. It's not something that I've found is a "way of life" the way some people describe it, I generally see no more passion for HS football in Dallas than I do in LA. Former players follow their teams a little bit, but that's about it.

If I remember correctly this 60 mil is for an entire athletic facility that is going to include one of the best natatoriums in the state.

Most of it is football, but there is stuff for other sports too.

It also includes a performing arts center, I believe. I think the TOTAL bond was $60 mil.

I never thought I would see a facility better than Tulsa Union's, but they may have. Union as a group though is best out there.

Melvin isn't too bright... Or doesn't understand what a bond election is.

aman to that i dont understand how they have no money to pay teachers but they have 60 million dollars for a football stadium

Mark Sena isn't too bright either.

Rick Perry and his cronies cut the Texas school budget by $2 Billion and Allen builds a $60 million stadium? Wow, no wonder the rest of the country laughs at us. Priorities are sure in order....NOT!

Good thing Texas is a right to work state, Scot. Good lord. People like this remind me why I got out of the public sector.

I thought schools were broke? I am sure the Unions loved this stadium.

I understand your point Scuba. I can see the POV of those quotes also. The Public perception doesn't always match the reality. But when your state is cutting school budgets etc.. someone should think about re-prioritizing funds. That being said, it is bond money and they can do whatever the hell they want to do with it.

Yeah... I was there firsthand for all of the budget cuts last session. A) His number isn't correct, and regardless there were $4 bil of federal funds Texas wasn't getting back period. And B) The fricktard obviously doesn't realize that it was a bond election.

As for the first guy, he's just clueless. The districts set the paygrade... And I guarantee you Allen pays theirs damn well. They might even be a Ch. 41 district, not sure.

Last year the state was facing a $28 billion dollar short fall. Every single agency was cut at least 7.5%. Programs were cut everywhere. TEA itself was cut 33%. The state ended up only cutting $15 bil. We fared a lot better than we could've.

The school finance formulas currently have 5 lawsuits filed against them for equity. Those won't be solved until the end of next session. At the end of the day, it is at the district's discretion what they spend money on... The state just supplies the funds, but only part of them. The rest come from their tax base.

yeah, I get all that. And my opinion of the matter is that it is their money and can do with it what they want.
Out of curiosity how much additional revenues will the stadium bring for the district.

They're going to have all kinds of events. Not really sure $ amount. Marching band competitions, playoff games, soccer games and tourneys, I think they're hosting the CFB All-Star game, etc. etc. It will have a substantial revenue stream outside of football.

This. Bottom line, all that revenue and taxes should benefit, the surrounding area's. Trees for the forest.

While I was in HS, not only the entire town went, but so did a lot of Cowboy players and a lot of people from the surrounding towns.

But Southlake was also in the midst of winning 4 out of 5 state titles so they had a ton of local and national appeal.

Anyone else thinking 60m just doesn't buy a whole lot these days? Nice stadium, but for the price tag just a little underwhelming.

They can pay $60 mil for a stadium but can't seem to find a way to get Thomas Jefferson in their history books.

well as discussed above the football stadium is only a part of what that 60m was used for. The stadium's price tag was not 60 mil.

I'll say that my experience was a bit unique since I went to the only DFW private school in UIL, but I was only ever blown away by the fan support and fervor when we played Trinity. That was admittedly wild.
