The release and Emmert's statement do not match up. Release says 20 per year, but I updated the OP.

That is basically making them a 1-AA program. That's not weak.

a vacation of all wins dating to 1998

Yeah because they sure gained a competitive advantage and used ineligible players.

Vacating wins for moral reasons...Awesome NCAA.

Vacating wins is stupid. Everyone knows what happened on the field.

No, Bowden is not the winningest coach. Its still the pedophle enabler.

Arresting 95 year old Nazi crimianls doesn't make the streets any safer, but it needs to be done. It's called justice.

Bowden is tops in my book.

Paterno was not coaching the team for at least the last three years.

Let's face it... having Paterno at the top of the all-time wins list would just look wrong.

In terms of schollies, bowl ban, and probation, not too much more than USC got for bush taking money from a wannabe agent and felon and one assistant coach covering it up. Double bowl ban, one more year of 15 yearly a schollie limits, and 65 instead of 75. Real tough NCAA.

What a stupid move.

Federal law was broken, let federal law take care of the penalties.

normally i would agree with this but for whatever reason this one time i don't. all they cared about was winning and making money, which is what put them in a situation where JoePa didn't say anything or at least didn't take the right actions to see it through. they deserve what they got.

@CharlesRobinson: Penn State signing "consent decree" is NCAA-speak. What it means is that PSU was fully on board. These are basically self-imposed penalties.

Seeing how Penn State is basically on board with these penalties, I have no problem with that.

This is my problem with the NCAA getting involved in this.

Next thing you know LSU will get sanctions for allowing the purple and gold rebel flag on campus.

This had nothing to do with competition on the field, so while lawsuits and arrest should be a part of the mix, NCAA penalties should not be.

Without googling, who won Penn State's fourth game in 2004? Who was the opponent?

Now I know the answer to at least one of these questions.

I understand that, but had they done the right thing and reported the violations then, the program would have suffered and more than likely Paterno would have been fired, especially after he had that series of bad seasons, and he never would have beat bowden.

They're not quite in a positions to challenge them. They would look more out-of-touch than they already look.

I've joined your brigade...lets all just start and keep only using Nazi references. See other thread...that way we don't have to confuse histories greatest two criminals Hitler and Paterno. Okay?

USC was limited to 15 schollies for 3 years...this is only 1 year longer...this doesn't seem like enough to me.

DIAF. this is about changing the culture of a program and showing the world you cannot put your football program over the well being of human life.
