Scholarship loss is basically the Death Penalty since there's no way they'll recover from this for a good 30 years. frick em.

Scholarship loss and 4 year post season ban are the penalties that will take 10+ years to recover from.....if they ever do. They are going to suck for a very long time. Who is going to sign with a school that can't go to bowl for their entire career?

LOL rewatch this OTL report about Penn State in 2008, about the 46 players pleading guilty, and 163 charges.

Joe Pa and Graham Spanier appear acting arrogant, and watching it now it's so obvious how sleazy they are.

That report was awesome. Also Spanier now claiming he wouldn't turn a blind eye to child abuse because his dad beat him.

Great post. All these folks that are trying to view the NCAA's actions today in a vacuum need to see this.

I think this is an absolutely terrible precedent. I think everybody who participated in or had knowledge of the Sandusky mess should be criminally prosecuted, but I can fathom NCAA sanctions against a University for criminal behavior not related to actual NCAA competitive bylaws.

This just seems like gratuitous penalizing of a school just because their actions are so incredibly distasteful, and the only people who will complain will be the affected program.

I really hope you're not just being a devils advocate here, because this is my thoughts exactly.. just typed in a much clearer fashion

I agree with this too.

If they take away UNC's title, I think it would be the 1st NCAA BBall title ever taken away.

Did Michigan have to vacate their title? I know Fischer's program was dirty and he had to vacate the Fab Five teams.

Claims of a "witch hunt," "lies," and the university president mainly concerned about bad publicity for Penn State. All too familiar.

And oh yeah, the university's Vice-President in charge of judicial affairs when that story happened? Fired because Paterno didn't want her trying to apply university rules to football players: story link

It's incredible that some people still think there was one little isolated incident at PSU, unable to see the complete lack of institutional control that existed for years.

I suspect that this is Emmert's way of establishing his authority at the NCAA. Penn State spent years telling everyone how they were doing it the right way and we learn in the Freeh Report that PSU was a paragon of lack of virtue. The sole concern of Paterno's was the football program, his reputation, and beating Eddie Robinson and Bobby Bowden.

The family is in deep denial about the report and the response to it by the NCAA and Big Ten.

Is it safe to say PSU got Sandusky'd?

They did it to themselves....and have no excuses to whine about the consequences.

This thing is just getting cranked up; there's a few criminal cases yet to hit the Grand Jury and it's a given there will be indictments. Then there's discovery phase and release of evidence, etc.

Before it's over who knows what cockroaches will show up.

I was listening to ESPN radio today. They were interviewing someone (who was not connected to Penn State) who brought up the shooting at the University of Virginia where the male lacross player killed his girlfriend who was a female lacross player. This person (can't remember his name)wondered that if by the NCAA stepping over the line that they did today into criminal cases, shouldn't they look into something like the Va murder. He was saying maybe the school failed to protect the woman from her stalker boyfriend. He was making the point that now that the NCAA has crossed that line, they have opened up an area where they can look at any criminal incidents involving athletes or athletic departments.

I'm getting sick of watching the little bitches at Penn St. gasping on Sportscenter as the sanctions are handed down. Screw them and their program. They will get beat down week after week starting in a few years and lasting for years to come, well deserved for such a cover up. I just wish they would have suspended them for the whole upcoming season. It would suck if they have a winning year in 2012.

One thing for certain, there has to be a lot of people in the Penn State community and the state of Pennsylvania (ordinary citizens and authorities) who were aware of facts and allegations surrounding Sandusky's extremely strange behavior and abuses relating to these kids. When this many kids are abused over a 14+ year period, there is gossip and official reports will be made...anonymous and otherwise. People talk.

Joe had to have some knowledge of what was happening and so did the president and other people in the Penn State administration. It's virtually impossible for someone to get away with what Sandusky did without a coverup. Coverups of this type are passive, indifferent, and evil. They thrive on what's not said and not done.

If this is not a prelude to the flushing of the cockroaches, I will be surprised.

Michigan's title was before Fab Five days and the findings were during the Fab Five run.
