It's really not. It goes by fast because you want to pass it out to people and bring it to festivals and stuff. It's a great hobby.

Yeah, that's not as many as you think. Goes quick.

it's especially not when you and your brew buddy(ies) split the batch. we're about to start doing 10.5gal batches just so we can have enough to split up, hand out, & still have enough for ourselves.

quote:idk? We dont get much of it outside of nola. Ive had a few of thier offerings (svea Belgian ipa, elliot brew [mikkeller collab iipa], and pannepot reserve). The svea was very good and pannepot was One of the best quads ive had.
Umm, so I'm listening to TBN and they're interviewing De Struise and they're saying that they're one of the best brewers in the world. We get this stuff in BR occasionally. Why haven't I heard more about it?

any reason to use plastic carboys over glass ones?

Preference really. I use glass because i was unaware of the plastic carboys. However, i would still choose glass. Comfort level, makes me feel nothing will creep in to contaminate my beer. Probably doesn't make sense because the plastic better bottles are just as good, but for me, the weight of the glass bottles gives me more comfort with the quality.

they don't break if you drop them on your concrete floor
Posted on 6/18/12 at 3:03 pm to ballacheez
i guess my concern was more for leeching
Posted on 6/18/12 at 3:14 pm to Rouge
the only thing I've read on concerns with plastic is that the plastic can get scratched, which could create a place where bacteria or contaminates can hide from a cleaning
not sure how big those concerns should be though. If you aren't adding anything really solid to your fermenter, like oak chips, what would scratch it?

If I brew every Sunday, move from my primary to my secondary every week and churn them out at 1 brew per week, I could still barely keep enough on me... Now I drink a good bit and so do my friends, but it isn't as much as you may think. If you want to share with people it goes fast. If it's just for yourself, you may be able to hold on to them longer

Absolutely no problem whatsoever. Plastic is a lot safer and cheaper and lighter. Buckets are great too.

i picked up a couple of 15.5 gal sanke kegs a few weeks back to use as fermentation vessels for my 10 gal batches. i plan on getting a couple of these in the near future, but I guess in the short term i'll be using a carboy cap & blowoff tube..
i'd like to turn them into conicals eventually, but that's a liiiiittle outside of my current skill set

Bumping this thread....
We racked the Kriek on to the cherries in secondary last night.
Brewed on 4/20 and it was very clear light pink in color and already kriek like flavored. I think it'll be just fine in another 8 months or so.
