The Bass Federation (TBF) and the entire fishing world mourns the loss of division championship angler Lorenzo Magdaleno, 51, from Lake Placid, Fl. Magdaleno was pronounced dead by Florida officials on Friday, June 8, after a bolt of lightning apparently struck Magdaleno and his boat partner, Mike Hardin of Tennessee, while fishing shortly after noon prior to the final day weigh-in of the TBF Southern Division Championship on Florida's Lake Okeechobee.

Damn that sucks and should be a wake up call for me

Yeah me too. I fish in shitty weather all the time, especially in tournaments.

frick that if it starts lightning I'm gone. Only took one time for me to make a cast and the line start to fizzle to scare the shite out of me.

All modern bass boats should come with one of these hard wired in:
I mean, what is $80 in trade for your life?

I don't mind a little rain but once i see lightening or hear thunder I'm booking it to somewhere safe and I don't give a frick about idle zones

Never seen those. Are they accurate?
Posted on 6/13/12 at 5:14 pm to LSU Tigershark
There are some that are more accurate but yes they are on the overly cautious side. They are required at HS athletic events here in Texas. The highest risk of lightning strike is when the storm is approaching with some strikes occuring 6 miles ahead of the storm.

Just what I wanted to read before fishing a tournament this weekend.

Almost a year to the day. It happened again to another bass fisher on Okeechobee.

we once were fishing out of Delacroix in Black Bay. we heard some buzzing (like an overhead powerline), and then noticed our line would not sink in the water after casting it, it was bascially floating. well that was the static in the air, we immediately hauled arse.

A couple of guys I know got struck by lightning in lake decade about 6 years ago. One is missing his thumbs and I think the other is missing some toes or something.

luckily I have always had good, at least not deadly, weather for the tournaments i've fished.
worst was 35 degrees with 20mph north winds in open water
