What country acts did you have in mind?

I've seen:
Roger Creager
Kevin Fowler
Pat Green
Robert Earl Keen
Ragweed
Wade Bowen
Reckless Kelly, and
Randy Rogers
5 or 6 times each. I'd go see them all again though. I agree with Loubacca, it's hard for us working folks to make the mid-week shows.

I'd like to see Jason Boland come back, Jackson Taylor, Jarrod Birmingham, Ryan Bingham, Turnpike Troubadors, Aaron Watson, Stoney Larue, off the top of my head. I don't think most of them have that big of a following in BR though.

Their manager is a friend of mine. Chris serino. He used to manage American Aquarium.

Probably a good bet, we used to say that in the 90s... never happened.

Agreed. Do you know if he's coming back anytime soon, and why does he play at Chelsea's instead of the Varsity?

The last time he played Chelsea was a favor to Dave for booking him from the beginning... Dave's acknowledged that he would probably play the Varsity moving forward...

Badass. Send them our way! They are well known for their genre considering we are talking Baton Rouge. I think they would pull the Yonder crowd in, and they sold out pretty quickly last time at the varsity.

I had to laugh at that. if he were, he'd be a little bit skinnier
(not at you doc) I've been knowing the guy for close to 15 years. Lost touch with him a few years back when he moved out of state.

Glad to see him doing well and bringing it back here. The acts he's gotten have always been impressive. He always did have an ear for good music.

Well, I wish The Varsity and B.R. the best of luck, but the 70's, 80's and 90's don't bode well for long term success of that type of venue there. The Kingfish, and, before that, the place by the lakes that's now condos, I believe (can't remember shite right now ), plus a few others have tried, appeared to be successful for a couple of years and then disappeared.

You post this like The Varsity is a new establishment.

As far as bands go, how about some hard rock or heavy metal? Spanish Moon and Chelsea's cover a lot of the type of music already listed in this thread outside of the country acts.

Chelsea's has a lot of folk,rock,jam,funk bands

Moon has a lot of indie rock, hardcore metal, and touring bands on general.

Just not as much as they used to have

Ryan Bingham played the varsity in 2011. I was there. I'd say there were 300 people there tops. Good show, just no one showed up

He probably should have just played Chelsea's again.

Although, the manship theatre would have been a much better venue, at least the Hartley vey room.

I know Boland's tour manager really well...he is also the TM for Turnpike. I know Bingham's people, too...I can find out if they have any plans to come to BR in the near future.

Randy Rogers is a buddy of mine, I can guarantee they'll be back at the Varsity. They love playing there because they get to do beer olympics

Randy was just there in February, though, so it may be awhile.

The new guy didn't book the Flaming Lips.. the old guy has the club booked for three months.

even he wasn't blind to that being a money maker. Making money is what drove the booking philosophy ... not taste.
