How many times a month do you shop for groceries?

For a while now I have tried to do all of my grocery shopping for the entire month in only one trip. My bill is usually about $500 when I do it this way (my household is only me and my gf).
I thinking about switching to going once a week now, mainly because I want to get more fresh vegetables in my diet and I want to see if it might help me lose some weight.
I don't seem to buy many fresh vegetables now because they always go bad before I use all of them (because I buy too much). I'm hoping that going once a week could somehow improve my eating habits by getting fresher food on the dinner table.
What do y'all think? Could going to the grocery store more often improve your diet?

Once a week, but I cook with fresh produce a lot.

I normally go every two weeks. Don't really have to buy a whole lot because the wife and I usually cook a meal one night, eat leftovers the next night, and then repeat with another meal.

Usually Walmart (big shopping for staples) once a week, Sam's at least every other week, and smaller, more frequent trips to local AG store for meat, milk, and things I forgot. Family of 5. Yes, I shop at freaking WM.
Possibly, but it might increase the amount you're spending too, since you'll be at the store more often and might end up with more "impulse" buys.
What about doing your major grocery shopping once a month like you do now, and then get fresh veggies/fruit once or twice a week at a vegetable market or farmer's market?

This is what I plan on doing more often. I've got to start eating healthier and the "middle aisles" of the grocery store are killing my waist line.

I've actually looked into this. Turns out that Jackson has a pretty good farmers market that is open on Saturdays. I plan on checking it out this weekend.

Every two or three days.
I don't buy food to cook until the day I'm going to cook it and I just keep up with the rest of the household goods as I go.

At least once per week... sometimes more for a few small things.
I find almost everything will be good for a week.

Usually twice a month. I live about 100 yards from a Winn Dixie so getting items as we need them is not an issue.

quote:I wouldn't say you have a problem. You probably go and buy stuff you're going to cook that day/night. I think that's how a lot of cultures shop and live. Going to the store less frequently is, I think, a product of an industrialized food production industry that makes that possible.

If you like to eat/cook fresh seasonal food, you probably go more frequently. I can't fathom going just once a month. People doing that have to be eating canned/boxed/frozen food almost exclusively and that seems gross to me.

usually once a week with occasional stops if I feel like cooking something we don't have
When we go, we buy fresh produce, meat and dairy with the occasional cans of beans

Yep, that is pretty much what I'm doing. Not only is it gross, but it also is unhealthy.

Same, I can do some stuff canned or boxed or frozen but I prefer to cook at least the bulk of each meal to be fresh.

4 to 6 depending on my work schedule and if I go on an eating-out kick.

So what are you buying? Chips, cereal, frozen dinners, etc.? No.. you should be:

Absolutely. Sometimes when I have more free time than usual I'll go to the grocery store every day; buy something to cook that night, then do it all again the next day.

Practically every day.

I'm the same. Depends on what I'm looking for. Hell I meet a couple people or my wife at Whole Foods about twice a week just for lunch.
