Luke Revisited: There's a new man in town...and it's looking good

As you all know, I visited Luke a few weeks ago and was pretty disappointed in the service. This visit modeled several previous visits where service was an issue.
I was not going to talk to a manager about this visit, because I had in the past...and apparently nothing had changed.
I was urged on this board to contact the current manager and was told that he encouraged hearing from me.
I did contact the manager and he was happy to hear my comments. He was newly the manager of Luke and assured me that changes were being made.
He invited me to come in and give Luke another try. I told him I'd be happy to come back in...but there was a catch...
I wanted to come in unannounced so that I could make sure that the service I got was not just from everyone being on their best behavior.
He accepted the challenge.
This post will focus only on service, since that's where I had issue. If anyone wants a review on the food, I'd be glad to post it because everything was phenomenal except dessert.
Onto our visit last night...
From the person taking my reservation, to the hostess, to the floor manager to the waitress...the service was OUTSTANDING. It was so good, in fact, that my boyfriend and I kept wondering if they knew who I was. It was just that good.
The floor manager was extremely attentive to all tables, without being overbearing.
I have to make particular mention of our waitress, Summer. She was an incredible server and we tested her on several levels. She knew the menu in and out. She knew the wine. She made wine suggestions and elaborated on their descriptions so that it was evident that she knew what she was talking about instead of just suggesting the most expensive wine on the menu.
When our drink order took a little longer than usual, she made to sure to apologize for the wait.
When we weren't happy with our dessert, she immediately offered to replace it with another.
At the end of the meal, we introduced ourselves to the manager. He was happy to see that we did come in.
The new manager is doing something very, very right. I hope to see it continue because the food at Luke is so good.

Never been there, but will now try next time in NOLA. What type of cuisine is served here?
Oh, I also got a kick out of the OT comment yesterday.

I'd describe the cuisine as classic french meets very slight New Orleans twist.
Which OT comment yesterday?

Good Stuff!
I agree that the service was horrendous.
I am not a huge fan of their food, but may have to try again. What do you enjoy so much?

We loved the escargot. It wasn't your typical drowning in garlic butter escargot (not that there's anything wrong with that). But theirs was in more like a gravy with some really great mushrooms...parasol mushrooms for one.
I got the Étouffée Of Blue Crab & Brown Shrimp, which was fennel, garlic, saffron fumet garganelli pasta. It was nothing like traditional ettouffee...which I knew it wouldn't be. More like a seafood and cream sauce pasta. It was fantastic. I LOVE fennel and saffron, so I knew it would be a winner.
My boyfriend got the shrimp and grits which was very good. It was a very slight tad too salty, but still really, really good. Great flavor.
All in all, I'd give the food a solid 8 and the service a solid 10.

Étouffée Of Blue Crab & Brown Shrimp - that sounds great. That may be my next meal there.

I forgot to add that my British boyfriend who has been in Nola for almost a year said it was the best service he's gotten since being here!

That's a big statement.
This type of restaurant can serve a lot of purposes for both locals and tourists, but it has to work and be good. It can be casual or dressy, so it's versatile in dress and food. Those are some reasons I've enjoyed it.

I too have noticed a huge improvement in service at Luke's after the original posting on Tigerrant.

I like the Sean Connery version best, at least on SNL's Jeopardy.
