I moved from Baton Rouge just over 5 yrs ago and havent been to New Orleans since I left. I have a business meeting in NO starting Monday. I know we'll eat one dinner at Redfish Grill, but I wanted some suggestions for our other lunches and dinners. I'm sure some in the group will have to try Mother's for lunch one day, but give me your thoughts.

We're staying at the Crowne Plaza on Canal. This group will enjoy a casual atmosphere and moderate prices. As much as I hate to say...no Dickie Brennans.

Thanks for the help.

Don't go to Mothers. Go to Red Gravy on Camp. Mother's is a tourist joint.

You can't miss kpaul's deli lunch. Order at the bar. They serve you on styrofoam, but the food is incredible at ridiculously low prices. Red gravy is meh at best, IMO.

Little Mexican resturant down at the end of the french market by the mint. El gato negra (the black cat) the food there is great!
You can Oder at the bar at Tujague's. Brisket poboy is nice. Chicken Bon femme is great.

Please consider skipping Mother's. Waste of a meal opportunity in Nola.

Since your group is from elsewhere, consider Bon Ton and Mr B's.

Bon Ton Cafe on Magazine near Poydras. I agree about skipping Mother's.

I'd be a happy man if I was there eating breakfast right now.

Unless it's radically changed in the last few years . . . skip it.

I agree Bon Ton or Mr. B's would be good.

I agree, I'm a Felix fan but I don't go beyond standing at the oyster bar and eating a couple dozen everything else is a waste of a meal.

Go to Port O Call in the Marigny for good burgers or Praline Connection. Buffa's has reasonable food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Three Muses has great music, good food and cold drinks.
Port of Call @ 838 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 523 - 0120.

Praline Connection @ 542 Frenchmen St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 943 - 3934.

Buffa's Lounge @ 1001 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 949 - 0038.

Three Muses @ 536 Frenchmen Street, New Orleans, LA 504 – 298 – 8746.

You may want to skip Buffas, unless your group enjoys a lot of cigarette smoke, and a real bar atmosphere (smell of spilled beer). Only time I would recommend it to eat is the Sunday Jazz brunch.
Agree with the Mr. B's recommendations.

Consider Emeril's NOLA for a dinner. Always a very good menu, well prepared and presented food, and a casual atmosphere with professional service. Get the chicken wing app...trust me.

Sounds like I will not try Felix's either. I have been to Royal Oyster House and had some good food there. Very casual. Corner of Royal and St Louis by Royal Orleans Hotel.

I should have mentioned that Mr. B's has a 2 course lunch special for those who might be interested. Muriel's also has a 2 course lunch special during the week, as well.

Your group might enjoy Luke. The soft shell crab BLT is very good there. You can have a sandwich or meal for lunch.

Any of these places are good for dinner, as well. Muriel's has a fixed price dinner at night, also.

Another idea is to pick up muffalattas at Central Market and eat it by the river or in Jackson Square. Maybe a few beignets for dessert if you want.

Emeril's is running a 3 course lunch special, as well.

Remoulaude next to Arnaud's is more casual than Arnaud's, but serves some of the Arnaud's dishes in addition to others.

In FQ on business all last week. Had the best raw oysters you'll ever have at Felix's. As usual. Cold, briny, salty goodness. Balance of menu, stay away from.

Mr. B's would be a good choice. They have a 2 course prix fixe lunch for $20.00 and it's 2 blocks from Ritz. Domenica is a casual John Besh Italian restaurant in the Roosevelot Hotel. They have happy hour specials from 3/6 half price pizza and drinks. Dining at the bar at Domenica is fun. Luke is another John Besh restaurant in the Hilton on St. Charles. They have a 2 course express lunch for $15.00 and 3/6 Happy Hour half price drinks and 50 cent oysters. Dining at the bar at Luke is fun also. Antoine's is in the FQ. They have a prix fixe 3 course 30 minutelunch for $20.00.
Emeril's is one of my favorite NOLA restaurants. It's a 10 minute cab ride from the FQ. They have an 30 minute express lunch special that's around $19.50. August is another of John Besh's restaurants and they serve a lunch special also.

Great suggestions and the help is much appreciated. I haven't been to Mothers in probably 20 yrs so thanks for the heads up. I agree on Felix's.....oysters or bust.

Only been to Deanies in bucktown.....is the FQ location worth trying?
