re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Curdoglsu
Current on Bayou Fountain appears to have stopped and may even be go backwards a little (could be wind). The Manchac gauge by Alligator appears offline now too so hard to monitor downstream. I would expect backflow to close to 13 feet followed by very slow decline with swamp as one. Hopefully no mor...

Bayou Fountain no longer draining - cut has happened - Curdoglsu
It appears that the cut on Alligator Bayou Road has happened. The current on Bayou Fountain has stopped and may likely go back up to 13 feet to drain with the swamp and Alligator Bayou. ...

re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Curdoglsu
I am no supernovasky, but it seems to me if Spanish Lake was at 13 feet and the Manchac was at 12, all of that water in Spanish Lake would rush the Manchac which is a more narrow area with less volume and trigger possible back flow all over again. My understanding is that the volume of water in tha...

Yes, who in their right mind breaks a levee (the road) during a flood event. I wonder how the neighbors to the north in CCLA feel about a possible intentional levee break at their back door....

re: The Great Flood of 2016: Fill Out Disaster Forms NOW. Link Inside! - Curdoglsu
I think others on the Alligator Bayou thread have said the I10 water is actually a little south of Bayou Manchac near Bluff Road and likely coming from the Alligator Bayou/Swamp areas there (where I-10 turns to the right going to New Orleans by Bluff Road)....

The Amite at Manchac Point gauge appears to be working again. 17.1 feet at 12:36 today. Higher than the estimated level. [link=(http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=LIX&gage=BYML1)]LINK[/link]...

re: Suggestions for dog breed. Needs to be good for families and protection. - Curdoglsu
If you go with a German Shepard, check out the Red Stick German Shepard Rescue page in the Baton Rouge area. We just lost one of our two Catahoula's we adopted after Gustav and they are great dogs - very protective and loyal to the family - much like German Shepards. Their crazy eyes can make th...

That is probably a good deal. I ordered a JKUHR with sticker of 48,700 I got for 44,340. This was 3% below invoice with TreadLightly discount. I also got $500 rebate in mail from jeep (golden ticket) which I was lucky to get while on order. ...

re: Tent camping essentials - Curdoglsu
If you get a propane stove and like coffee, Coleman makes a great drip coffee pot like you use at home. I prefer that to the percolator. The stove top version is 30 to 50 bucks. You need a thermos to keep warm after brewing. They also make a self contained version that does not need a stove but it i...
