El Sol Y La Luna or Manuels offer OK Mexican near 6th.

Power tip: don't call it Tex-Mex.

Paul Qui, who just won Top Chef, works in Austin. Go to his place.

Yeah I've been to Stubbs before. I was looking for some new ideas. I call it tex mex bc that's what most places are. They aren't true Mexican. Personally I like tex mex better than "authentic" Mexican. We are looking for something casual where we can pre game and drink a few. I like the ideas so far.

Agree with El Arroyo.

I've always been fond of Guero's on Congress (across the river from downtown). Great atmosphere and patio.

How far can you travel?

BBQ: Stiles Switch, JMuellers, Franklins

Tex Mex: Habanero's, Mi Madres,

Austin-style Tex-Mex: Chuy's, Trudy's, Hula Hut (great lake spot and big drinks)

Yeah, but he's wanting to stay close to 6th.

@OP - If you want to get away from Tex-Mex & BBQ, then got to Uchi or Uchiko, those are the restaurants Paul Qui works at, but Tyson Cole owns. And, while Qui is the Top Chef, Cole is a James Beard winner.

Qui owns East Side King, which has an interesting concept:
