Anyone ever been there? I think the closest one is around Destin. I think they would make a fortune if one would open in the Baton Rouge/ Gonzales area...

I've been to the one in Myrtle Beach. Loved it.

Been to the Destin one. Solid burger and good cold beer.

never been to the chain restaurant (didn't even know they existed until now), but I've been to the place where "Cheeseburger in Paradise" was inspired

Yeah, I thought that was a Jimmy Buffet's trademark.

We're probably the only two on here...that place is awesome.

I've been to the one in Destin. My parents had went the week before and raved about it. I went and was not impressed. Food was kind of cold and not much flavor. Maybe an off night.

Me and UF aren't talking about the chain. We're talking about a place in Josephine, AL...

Huh, I thought the place was off the Florida coast and didn't have power running directly to it. And also, that you couldn't get the burger he describes in the song either from them.

I live right next to one in Atlanta. Haven't tried it yet. I'll report back after.

I have been to the original on St Croix, it is great, and he had to pay for the DBA name.

He has something to do with it either via licensing, owning a small piece, etc.
Outback owns the chain.

On Jimmy's website he has a list of the places that supposedly inspired the song

LuLu's original place beside the bait shop and boat ramp at river entrance into Week's Bay?
Found Jimmy waiting tables there one Friday night, maybe eighteen years back. He sat with the wife and I for ten minutes and we bought him a beer.
Grouper sandwich was always my choice.
Jimmy always said thebest Cheeseburgers he ever had were from places attached to a baitstand.
Good memories. Wood picnic tables screen patio enclosed in visquine in the winter. Seated maybe 30 people?
Long way from there to LuLu's on teh intercoastal canal now.
edited to add - she has probably paid the mortgage on her new place twenty times by now. I understadn Jimmy loaned er th emoney to move when she lost her lease at Weeks Bay.

quote:yeah, this is what I was talking about (Cabbage Key) off the West Coast of Florida between Tampa and Ft. Myers. It's a tiny little island, maybe 80 acres big.

But after reading this thread I checked out his website and it says he was inspired by somewhere in the Caribbean.....so I'm not sure now
I'm surprised someone on here knows about Cabbage Key
