Gautreau's Review

Going to try and get this done while fresh on my mind for once.
Had an early reservation so the place was dead silent other than the occasional ringing phone and the background music, but it was nice. Then, the atmosphere changed as the regulars filled in. Pretty cool to watch the change.
We started with sazaracs. I ordered the julienned kale with currants, raisins, pine nuts, and a lemon dressing. Wow. So refreshing and tasty. Light but not boring. My husband had the duck confit and german potato salad. He really enjoyed it although he did remark that he preferred the duck confit from Dominique's. It looked very filling. He loved the potato salad.
For entrees, we both went with fish. I had the flounder with ratatouille, polenta cake, and a basil beurre blanc. Excellent. Fish cooked to perfection. The flavors all worked so well together. Everything was very flavorful but not over the top. My husband had the halibut with lemon yogurt sauce, tabbouleh, fried artichokes, and roasted pepper chutney. His was excellent as well.
Dessert: the caramelized banana split. Very good. Probably weakest point of the meal especially considering the $13 price tag, but it was delicious and we ate every bite.
Gautreau's is pretty pricey, but for a special occasion, I would highly recommend it. The food and service are both top notch. A+++

Yep five in the city for sure. I have been going since 1984. The chefs that place has produced is stunning.

I'm actually assembling a list of possible next moves. Nola, San Francisco, and charleston are at the top of the list right now. Once I get my resume together I'll be sending it to the best restaurants in each city.

Good choices on the cities. Gautreau's is a real foodie place. Selman, Currence, Harris and Zemanick are Alumni.
Two of them are good friends of mine.

I've always wanted to go to charleston. Hoping to make a trip for my birthday this year!

New Orleans is the only city I wouldn't already have a place to stay... That's pretty much the only thing holding me back from there (well that and the crime)

I'm just fricking around. I know how to handle myself in questionable cities

Zemanick is still there, so she's not an alum yet, Mr. Glass.

One of the top restaurants in the city. And, glass is right. The place produces great chefs.

I know. I should edit, but when I am wrong I can admit it.

You worried me. I thought she'd left when I read your post.
