I also think some of you in this thread must be extremely fun people to be around.
Do you agree or disagree that LSU decides how to best utilize its ticket allotment?
If LSU wanted to give all of the tickets to poor orphans from Africa, they could.
The powers that be at LSU have clearly decided that a portion of their allotment is best utilized on state legislators. I'm sure a cost-benefit analysis was done long before you decided to start condemning those people who don't have a say in this decision.

LSU does what it thinks it has to do under the circumstances. That doesn't make it right, or ethical.

Then you admit that the legislators don't make that decision for them.

I wasn't aware that LSU had to have specific criteria to determine how best to utilize its allotment.

Don't be disengenuous. We both know how this game is played. LSU does what it does because the lege implicitly has its hand out.

My problem is with the system that allows this to happen. To the extent that you, or your brother in law, or your boss, or whoever you're shilling for in this thread is part of the system, you're part of the problem.

They all gave LSU the ability to raise its tuition each year for meeting certain criteria aka GRAD Act.
What did you do??? Enjoy watching the BCS game on TV

I've never had a problem with this and never understood why some people do.
They're legislators. I think it'd be more curious if LSU DIDN'T make tickets available to them. It's the right thing to do. I guess it's understandable for someone to dislike this practice, but they are important people and this happens to be a perk of the very important job they hold.
It's not a big deal.

This. You shouldn't get any extra "perks" because you are a legislator. I don't blame LSU or the Sugar Bowl Committee as much as I blame the legislature itself. The legislature itself could make this a policy.

I don't think they should get the opportunity to buy them before season ticket holders. That's my problem with it. Even though they are buying it, they are getting an opportunity by the mere fact that they are a legislator to do something season ticket holders are not. Whether they are buying them or not, it is a perk of their job. And the legislature, although they passed a law banning free tickets, needs to close the loophole and not get any favoritism on tickets.
I didnt read the whole thread but something needs to be said. It may be an unpopular thing but the legislatures mean far more to the university than the average season ticket holder. The only guys who mean more to the university are the TAF guys in the hundreds who are getting 6 tickets. Even with them its debatable on who means more. Academics is politics and you cant bite the hand that feeds you. Joe blow season ticket holder will be replaced by the hundreds on the wait list. Joe represenitive can wreak funding havoc for years.

Yes they have. This is why I dont support Jindal at all. However do you think pulling their tickets will reestablish good will and funding?

No. I don't blame LSU in this at all. But the Legislature should make it a policy stating that they can't accept these tickets. Put faith in the people that hire you to do your job.

Agreed, but our "ethics reform" govenor thought it would be ok if they only had to pay face value like everyone else

I'm guessing handful in this thread defending the practice are legislators themselves, or family, friends, or staff of legislators. At minimum, you know they're reading this, and they know what most of us think about them.
Not even close. I am upset the legislators get tickets, but it would be asinine to fuss at the legislators for that. Fuss at LSU and the Sugar Bowl committee.
If someone came up to me and offered me 2 tickets for face value, would I be a crony for accepting them?

Ahhh, more laws. Awesome.
I say that is horse shite. The legislative branch or any other body of government should not have to write laws that stop this practice. LSU is fully capable of policing itself. If there is something ethically wrong with giving away the tickets, that is on LSU and the Sugar Bowl Committee.
If you think the legislators are wrong for accepting the tickets, then you should AT LEAST think LSU is wrong for giving them.
Posted on 12/19/11 at 4:53 pm to spslayto
Allowing legislators to purchase a ticket avoids ethicial delimma's. You are living in a fantasy land if you think someone wouldnt offer them free tickets. Then the legislator is in a sticky situation, if he takes te tickets is that accepting the gift? What happens if someone offers him 10 tickets for face value? It is easier and a lot cleaner for him to get the rights to purchase tickets through LSU where everything is legit.
Or does the legislators just need to make a law where if they were not season ticket holders they can not go to a LSU game.
