This comes up everytime we end up in New Orleans:

Tought Ticket--Not for Legislators....

quote:

“LSU makes these tickets available for purchase to these offices because they play a vital role in the continued success of Louisiana State University,” Vincent said by email.

Maybe the University, but not the athletic department.

I don't want to read that.

I remember when I worked with the team that was a huge point of contention in 2007.

These frickers get free tickets only to cut LSU's academic budget by millions.

I remember one of those frickers got free super regional baseball tickets, then bitched about where the seats were.

Politicians are the worst human beings around.

The University > The Athletic Dept.

Gotta keep those palms greased.

True. But its the fans that spend their money on gameday that does more for the Athletic Department than anything the legislators do. And access to 6 tickets each? How many TAF points does one need for that?

Giving tickets certainty hasnt helped the university avoid budget cuts.

The article states they have access to 2 tickets, not 6.

It is no better or worse than giving tickets to sponsors. At least the legislators tend to have more to do with LSU than Mercedes-Benz execs

The Sugar Bowl Committee made four tickets available to each legislator. LSU also freed up an additional two tickets for them.

2+4=6?

I remember back in 2007, one of my old friends was the daughter of one of the state senators. He bought two tickets for his two daughters, who had no interest in the game whatsoever. They went and left at halftime to beat the crowd to Dragos. I ended up getting the ticket stub.

To be fair, the university only gives two. The Sugar Bowl gives the other four, and they run it, so I don't see an issue. I don't think the university should give any since they already can get four, but it's not the worst thing I've ever heard of.

No, they don't. The law was changed several years ago. They have to pay face value for their tickets. They are no longer free.

LSU facing 8 million in cuts. Sounds like Obama economics. Just think how bad the cuts would be if they didn't get bribed?

These tickets would be wonderful opportunities for local charities to raise money if they would donote the tickets to them.

It's not just New Orleans. I got face value tickets to the Final Four in Indianapolis through a friend's dad who was a legislator.

I don't think they should get the opportunity to buy them before season ticket holders. That's my problem with it. Even though they are buying it, they are getting an opportunity by the mere fact that they are a legislator to do something season ticket holders are not. Whether they are buying them or not, it is a perk of their job. And the legislature, although they passed a law banning free tickets, needs to close the loophole and not get any favoritism on tickets.

Moreover, they give LSU money. But whose money is it that they are spending? Is it their own in the form of donations?

Agreed.......I wonder how many of these folks actually attend the game.

If they truly want to go to the game I'm sure they have the means just like the rest of us. I'm fortunate to have received tickets through LSU, though I can tell you if I was one of the first few to have missed out because these jackasses received tickets I would have been pretty pissed.

Same old whiny babies crying because legislators get tickets. This 'controversy' pops up for every bowl game, CWS or Final Four LSU is involved in.

Boring to say the least. Jesus, shut up or run for office.
