Can't really argue with that.
It's either win in the daytime or lose at night.
I prefer winning...

I really don't care what time we play as long as we are winning

Sad that he has to post a letter explaining what most should understand already. I can only imagine the number of emails he has been getting from "fans" complaining about the daytime kickoffs.

I understand out hands are tied, i just hope Alleva is bitching about it to the SEC and the networks as much as possible on our behalf. That's all I really ask.

I am in agreement with you, but from the tone of his email, I don't believe either of us is getting our wish fulfilled.

. But to remain a competitive program we must be a member of a conference and therefore must abide by its TV contracts.
Then during contract negotiations, maybe Alleva should do his damn job and lobby for LSU to get night games.

Joe Alleva is doing all he can to ruin the gameday experience for the average LSU fan. This extends from not fighting for night games to charging 40 dollars to park on campus in lots that were formerly free. Newsflash to Joe Alleva: this is not Duke. We actually care about football and the gameday experience i.e. tailgating is a huge part of LSU football.

Its all BS. If this was Alabama's tradition CBS was screwing with, CBS and the SEC would back off. Where are our attorney's & negotiators?

You don't know how this really works do you?

CBS will never move a game simply to honor LSU's night game tradition and there is nothing LSU can do about it. Alleva can whine and complain but it will not make a difference. LSU fans need to get over it and adapt.

Actually I know a lot about contract negotiations. I also know that as a member university of the SEC that we have a representative present, and have to individually agree to the terms set for in nay contract signed by the SEC, as do all other member schools.
Lobbying for a clause to allow you to insure one night SEC home game per season is not an unreasonable request in such negotiations.
So wtf were you talking about?

Dude, quit your bitching or go find a nice high school team to pull for.
This is how major college football is. It is a fact of life. We are lucky that we still have somewhat affordable tickets and still have some free parking. Lots of schools priced out the poor in their fanbase several years ago. Go line up to get Alabama, George, or Florida season tickes and see what they cost.
It's not changing folks so get over it. This is major college football. We are going to make money every way possible and that means getting the most out of tv contracts that the SEC sets up.

He's just stating the obvious. LSU gets a lot of benefit out of being in the SEC and sharing the revenues of the SEC's TV contracts. To receive these benefits, we have to comply with the contractual requirements, including moving our game times when the TV networks say so. The reason the networks want to televise all of our SEC home games this year is that we are #1. So, basically the only way to avoid this "problem" would be to either withdraw from the SEC or not be as interesting to the networks (i.e. not be as good as we are).

The email I sent to that address in the letter.
quote:
Joe (or whomever is screening these for him),
90% of the true fans already know the reason as to why we did not have any night games this season. The problem we have is more along the lines of us wanting to hear something from you besides excuses. Perhaps a plan to attempt to insert an exemption in the next tv contract negotiation? And I’m fairly sure the current CBS contract expires 1-3 years from now. Do I honestly believe that the network would have a major problem if one of the major schools (reasons they are signing said deal) asks for a 1 night game per year at the lease clause in the deal? No, I don’t, and I’d expect you as our athletic director to at the very least ask for it and make an attempt, if for no other reason than to placate the fans whom you make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to please.
thanks for (hopefully) reading this,
