When he blatantly threw his arms up while looking at members of the opposing team. Pretty obvious call. Sorry if it's too hard to comprehend for the "voice of reason."
If that silly gesture constitutes "taunting" then let's just call it a day for any kind of emotion or enthusiasm in football. Honestly, that was absolutely nothing. God have mercy. Have today's young people turned into pussies?

I just remembered that I posted in the thread about the new "can't see me" cheer thread. I said they should do something like to signify "don't care".
I guess Brad was reading

it was not "egregious" (sp?) like the rule called for...

Not at all. Actually, I'm pretty sure a bunch of middle aged white guys like yourself implemented the stupid rule. I hate excessive celebration penalties, I think they're extremely subjective and unfair. The new call is if he hasn't entered the end zone, correct? He can still taunt, just don't do it on the way to the end zone and the touchdown stands. Pretty simple.

I think the question is now, was is nonegregious taunting?
Cuz damn that was the weakest taunt I have ever seen and they are supposed to save that for egregious taunting.

No. Terrible rule? Yes.
Yeah, it's a terrible rule but gimme a break. The refs make judgments on nearly every rule in the book. Otherwise, there's be 50 penalties per game.
That damned "celebration" lasted about 1/4 of a second. At normal speed, if you blinked, you missed it.
It was an asinine call.

That was not egregious

CFB needs to hold the same rule as NFL. IDGAF if someone does the "LSU Leap" and jumps into the student section.

Blatantly throwing your arms up while looking at members of an opposing team isn't taunting, per the NCAA. Here's the section of the rules that involve gestures:
quote:
(a) Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s) or ball at an opponent, or imitating the slashing of the throat.
I think his motion actually specifically avoided doing any of these. At that point, it becomes a judgement call. A "taunt" that lasts such a short amount of time that it's only really visible in slow motion would seem to set a ridiculously low threshold for the judgement call. Seeing how TM7 wasn't called at all for any of his:
quote:Then the rules are being applied unevenly.
(b) Taunting, baiting or ridiculing an opponent verbally.

The announcers mentioned it not being able to be egregious, but when the SEC official said it was the correct call, they posted the written rule on screen and it said nothing about having to be egregious.
It was a taunt, even if the simplest kind. I took it as looking over at the Florida players and saying, look at me, I'm running free and you can't get me.

So, what you're saying is . . . today's young people are turning into pussies.
And yes, I said in other threads that a bunch of middle aged white guys (and, yes, white guys are more likely to have a stick up their butt) made the rule to feel good about themselves. Nevertheless, the idea that points are essentially taken off of the board for that "infraction" cannot be defended.

So describe to me the 100 flags that were taunts that weren't called.
Posted on 10/8/11 at 11:11 pm to Tigers4Lyfe
They're saying every time someone scores and show emotion and jumps or makes any kind of gesture.
Posted on 10/8/11 at 11:11 pm to Tigers4Lyfe
You posted the rules yourself:
(a) Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s) or ball at an opponent, or imitating the slashing of the throat.
ARMS, ARMS, he threw his arms out as if to say look at me.

Penalizing it isn't that uncalled for, but taking the TD off the board is like trying to kill an ant with a bazooka. Just complete overkill and frustrates the hell out of me no matter what the score.
