Had it tonight for the first time too. Really like the vanilla flavor. It compliments the chocolate well. Alcohol really well hidden. I like this one even more than I do the Terrapin/Shmaltz Reunion Ale '11, which is a similar style.

I get the chocolate with the first hit of the taste. Caramel throughout the taste and the vanilla hits at the end.

Very complex beer with all the flavors but excellent!

And I'm not even a dark ale fan so this is a compliment coming from me.

Not too impressed with my first bottle of it.
Especially for an anniversary type beer.
I'll keep on giving it a try at 4.50 a bottle but overall kind of meh.

I picked up 4 of them b/c of the price. Gonna let a few sit for awhile.

I was in Whole Foods and they had at least 6 cases of the Doubledog on display outside of the cooler.

Giving the Doubledog a try this afternoon... it's a solid 'B' beer to me. It's better than Abita's regular lineup but could really use more of the vanilla flavor if they are going to put it in the name of the beer.

I'd like to try it on tap or aged and see how it's different.

I'm drinking the doubedog right now. It's just ok. I really taste no vanilla and the taste really isn't doing all that much for me.

drinking my first one now... picked 3 of em up at rouse's $3.99 a pop. bottles are 22oz, beer is a dark ale with a the very slighted hint of vanilla. the after taste is one you would expect with dark ale (not vanilla). I am a huge abita fan and I definitely think this was worth trying, but it is definitely not as good as abita strawberry

Just had my first Doubledog right now. It's definitely one of their better beers, which isn't saying much in my opinion. It's got more of a chocolatey, carmel taste than vanilla. It's good. I enjoy it, but it isn't great. I'd give it a B.

I am going to have to bust a bottle out today. See if all this hype was warranted out of the bottle.

I had the same reaction to it. I've got another bottle of it so it'll get a second chance...but the first was disappointing.

I enjoyed the Smoky Mary... had it at Avenue Pub while waiting on the Zwanze day festivities. I thought it was a pretty good smoked beer but yeah, nothing revolutionary. I would drink it again for sure.
