Spent the day in College Station...

I was on the Texas A&M campus and around College Station today. It just doesn't have the feel of a SEC campus at all. I really expected more. I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed.

I liked the athletic facilities, but the campus didn't have a great architectural appearance to me. Most of the SEC schools are pretty similar. The layout of the campus at Texas A&M was pretty dull. The city was very different too.

Yeah, but did you go to The Chicken??!?!?!?!?!?!?

School doesn't start till the end of the month. It is likely a ghost town at the moment.
Northgate always reminded me of Cumberland at UT. Tons of bars and hot coeds.
I agree that the campus is very business like other than the academic building. The big difference is that it is friggen huge.

Meaning most students should be back.

My gripe about playing at Kyle Field is where they cram the visitors. I've sat in the nose bleeds at Bama, Auburn, UGA and Tennessee and those seats are luxury compared to where they stick you at A&M. Those are the WORST visiting seats I have ever sat in...PERIOD!

did you realize school is not in session?
I've stopped in Auburn on the way to Atlanta before. VERY different place on game day than in mid August, same for CS.
They don't have the tailgating set up like at LSU, but the bars at North gate (and yes the Chicken is one) are pretty fun on game day's.
Some of the cheers and chants have a cultish feel, but once you get past that, its a pretty SEC like crowd for a big game.

The appearance of Kyle Field was very nice, IMO. I think that would fit well in the SEC. However, the campus was just very different than what you'll see at other SEC sites. I would have to go to a game to judge the tailgating, obviously. I went in 1988, to the Alabama-A&M game, but I have no recollection of it.

The entire first deck east and west side from the back of the end zone to the 10 yard line? That's not bad visitor seats

School being in session, or not, has nothing to do with a layout of campus or the architectural design of the campus buildings.

Naa the move in days are coming up and the kids all show up at the same time. Those days are a mess usually.

The name "College Station" sounds like a really cool place...sounds are deceiving.

on August 14th? They don't start classes until the 29th. I don't know where you went to school, but LSU's campus was not exactly buzzing 15 days before school starts. Hell the dorms probably don't open for another week and a half. They didn't at LSU.

Are you serious? It's literally one of the ugliest stadiums I've ever seen.

The Chicken's burgers aren't nearly as good as those at Koppe Bridge Bar & Grill. The Chicken just has a great location.
To the OP, you have to remember that College Station is going through one of its worst droughts ever. The campus architecture isn't very appealing, but the campus looks much better when there's some rain.

There were people around for Rush two weeks before school started at LSU...but being Greek at TAMU is worse than being in the Corps.

I can't say I disagree. I've never thought our campus was pretty. Some of the new stuff over by the bush library is very nice, and the old oak trees are nice, but texas is texas. My dad (a dawg) never lets me hear the end of how ugly texas is.
But really.. who gives a shite about the campus when it comes down to things. Lets play football, get paid and talk trash.

Do all Aggies live in dorms on campus? Serious question. At UK, only freshmen do. Greek houses depend on if they're on campus or not as far as when they can move in, but all are moved in at this point. Most people are back by the beginning of August (when most leases start).
