I watched it on Saturday as was amazed how brainwashed the people are.

Even if reunification were to be attempted, getting over that mentality will take generations.

I know they are brainwashed, but I wonder how much of what we see is done for the cameras.

I personally thought the Vice Guide to NK was better,

I've seen both of them. Both worth watching. That country is scary.

LINK You can watch it online as well. I think it is four parts.

Also, the Vice Guide to Liberia is pretty interesting.

they aren't brainwashed. That would imply that they were normal to begin with. All they've ever known is that crazy way of life. It's beyond brainwashed

North Korea had that one player who was playing professionally in Japan who still lives like a North Korean with no refrigerator or television and shite like that.

I agree. My mom and I have talked about it many times with my grandmother. Even if reunification were to happen it would be hard to get the North assimilated into the modern world.

Its stunning that there is still this much control, physically and psychologically, over a country in our current day without a revolution even being considered.

This is exactly what I thought. Iran maybe the only other country but at least there is a discussion (tweeting) of revolution there. NK is just gone.

It takes a special kind of crazy to run a country under those house rules. Absolute insanity.

Just watched it (thanks to whomever posted the link).

Wow...crazy. But not anything that I didn't really expect. Kim Jong Il is without a doubt one of the most interesting people on the planet. And his people revere him unconditionally at all times. To the point of insanity (to an outside, third party).

I would love to get a glimpse into how he lives for like a week. Love to see the many ways in which he indulges himself while his people suffer and starve....and love him for it.

I'd also love to watch a golf game of his. I bet that is hilarious.

If you haven't read about his exploits at the latest World Cup, you should.
