The woman owned it (along with her husband). They later in life gave the bar to one of the daughters and their home (that they moved from) to the other one. As far as I know, the daughter with the bar owns it still. The one with the house is an attorney (unplanned to go that path - there's a news story on her) who has done very well for herself Both are sweethearts.

Cove = The Lost Cove now, on Essen. The old Cove in Citiplace is now Churchills. No idea what is in the old Churchills. Nothing?

Phew. Cadillac is gone. Superior still seems to be the divorcee place to go on certain nights.

Is this code for something, or do you mean literally that Lebanese people hang there? Haha.

Ice House opened in Gulf Shores last Fall. Seems to be the same family of owners as Baton Rouge Ice House that also had Cadillac Cafe. It’s funny someone mentioned The Station because it has that vibe here. Older locals early then late night service industry/tourist mix. They also serve food and cater to a late night crowd. It looks to be doing very well here so far.

Damn, haven’t thought about this place in over a decade. 2008-2011 memories flooding back.

Any idea of these others from that time?

- Splash (gay bar maybe?)
- Punchers
- Chelsea’s
- Something at the Northgate next to where Chinese Combo King used to be
- Texas Club

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I feel like that whole strip of Government is trying to be Austin or something. Good that it seems to bring business to the area but a bit of a hipster scene imo

I'm dumb.

Funny you say that. We say that each time we visit Mid Tap (which isn't often). Odd concentration of lesbians when I feel like there can't be THAT many in town.

No judgment here either! We used to be frequent visitors of L Bar back in the day when it was open because they'd host a monthly night with a genre of music we like.

Still there. The traditional gays tend to avoid it. It's mostly super young dudes and creepy older dudes hoping to prey on the twinks. And random women who want to dance.

Most have moved to Mother's, as it is a very nicely done cocktail style bar. They have drag nights, theme nights, and awesome food.

Gone. It is Bengal Tap Room now.

- Chelsea’s

The one you're thinking of is gone, but now there's Chelsea's Live. Really awesome music venue, but it is just music. You don't go there to like hang out at the bar. They don't even own barstools besides the few tables they may have.

Northgate Tavern? Gone.

Slinkys? Also gone. She owns The Bookstore now.. I think?

They now have Murphy's on that strip where maybe Co-Op used to be? Those places have changed name so much I can't keep it all straight.

There's also The Revelry next to Chimes in what used to be Serrano's (or was it Salsaritas?) - idk

- Texas Club

Its alive and kickin, but way far out from me and not my scene so I can't speak to it.

When I was in early college, I was hired to go between classes to mop the floors, clean the liquor bottles, and do misc. stuff the closers didn't do late at night. Easy between-class cash, I must say.

That’s it! Thank you!

I knew it was some generic arse name. Played several shows there circa 2008-2009. It was really crummy. I swear I could feel the shoddy little “stage” cracking beneath my feet - very unsettling. Also dragging amps up and down that weird alleyway SUCKED.

Good to know Splash was able to hang on. Definitely went there a time or two as an undercover gay boy because I heard (correctly!) that a lot of girls went there just to dance. And do coke, of course.

I remember Pam. Rip The Bayou but most of my time in that area was in the 90s.

Government definetly has a good concentration of good restaurants with atmosphere.

Bar scene is still lacking there but Barracuda/Pelican to Mars area seems promising.

I forgot to mention the Bulldog off of Perkins. Definitely a good place to day drink a beer or two but hard to stay there over an hour.

Mother’s a good place if you don’t mind the gay stuff.

Has a retro feel to it with the Disco ball & the upstairs is cool. Good live music too

Is this the place where people bring their dogs into the bar?

There was some place like that in BR. Not fun trying to enjoy a drink / conversation with two breeds of peace going apeshit at each other.

Is the Londoner still around? A friend and I briefly hosted trivia there when they first opened back in 2011ish?
