JMU is the new premier football power in Virginia but seriously

As long as it isn't Fallwell University.

And I don’t think VT ever returns to relevance.

I'm not sure why people act like they are a football power, and they aren't much of anything in other sports. Hell VCU is a better basketball program by a wide margin.

The only for sure thing is that the B1G will expand into Florida. Everything else….people are just guessing.

Also the SEC and B1G gain absolutely nothing by adding programs like UVA, VT, NC State. Might as well add Pitt and BC while you’re at it because none of the those schools move the needle in football

B1G will have almost all major TV markets in the United States.

More people watch NC State than UNC football.

If WVU played UVA then it would have been 90/10 for WVU. VT>>>>>UVA in every sense.

VT has a way more passionate and loyal fan base than UVA

That was never in question

There was a poll ten years ago looking at the fanbases in Virginia by age. Virginia Tech fans were older, and it tracked with the glory days of VPI football.

I don't know that Tech will come back.

this is true, but the thought of these conferences debating over which school has the most profitbale/best non revenue sports like tennis is kinda hilarious

I’ve been reading this thread and will say that UVA to the SEC is a bad fit.

Ideally we would see the creation of a southern Ivy competitor league.

You could have schools like:
-UVA
-Duke
-GA Tech
-Tulane
-Wake
-Rice

Let them focus on research, academics and non-revenue sports while de-emphasizing football or allowing it to remain a true amateur sport like you see in the ivys.

As long as they have access to the NCAA tournament in basketball and can associate with similar academic profile schools they would all be happier outside of the loss of revenue from the current ACC, but that’s happening whether they want it or not.

I love all this nonsense that VT fanbase is older, yeah, the majority of donors are older but that is every school as people make money.

But UVA at 43k attendance, MD at 40k, etc are all much closer to major population centers but no one cares unless they are playing VT, or Penn St, WVU, etc

There are three football schools that people are passionate about regionally, Penn St, VT and WVU. THats the list.

As for basketball...VT does pretty good but not in the UVA sphere...but to say VCU is far ahead is laughable. We average more fans and we are much further away from a major city like Richmond. I would go as far to say that the number 2 basketball school in VA is probably UNC especially in the Tidewater area.

As for other sports, VT is top 10 in wrestling attendance with a couple thousand a match, then women's...oh wait, no one gives a f@ck about any of these sports in the big picture....football drives everything...

And I am a broken record, but VT is only getting bigger. The innovation center in Crystal City or whatever it is called this week is another big step. THe medical college in Roanoke.

VT is a dead program with ugly uniforms and a turkey for a mascot. Their best days are behind them

I said VCU is easily a better basketball program, which is absolutely true. And your only response is average attendance.

A major question the SEC is going to have to answer is do they want to skip GT and have the BIG come into Atlanta (#7 largest metro area and growing). Forget about what your opinion is of the current GT program, do the SEC schools that heavily recruit the GA high school market now want the big boys of the BIG down there? Or does the SEC just take GT and keep the status quo? There is no way the BIG isn’t salivating at getting into the Miami and Atlanta markets when they become available. It’s going to be interesting to see how the SEC handles several of these metro areas. Heck, SMU could be interesting watch as well.

Most people only care about basketball in March. It has no bearing on conference expansion.

The B10 big boys already recruit GA. No one cares about GT football.

I hate Tech but the view of the Midtown and Downtown Atlanta skylines at Bobby Dodd is one of the best in CFB.

Markets dont really matter if those markets dont watch those teams.

B1G learning this with Rutgers and Maryland.

Plus basically all games are nationally televised these days, no regional TV games like the good ole days
