You can tangibly calculate the ROI LSU has received from winning the title, and the social media frenzy that followed.

ok. so what is it?

and i'm not disagreeing with what you are saying, or that it didnt' happen, b/c it obviously did in a very good way. The Espy's was full of LSU athletes.
But how is it getting back into the pockets of LSU?

Does LSU's twitter account make money? serious question as i have no idea.

If the courts make lsu pay players, how will lsu afford to pay them?

that is what most people don't understand about college sports.

everybody sees the SECN and ESPN contracts and think these universities are printing money.
but as this report shows, that's not even close to true when talking about the entire athletic budget.

in 2022, only about 20 (public) schools total turned a profit at all.

if you divide that money by total number of student athletes, then MAYBE 10-12 schools could pay each athlete more than about $25k annually if you split the money evenly across the entire athletic department.
Give your starting QB, WR, stud basketball payer, etc. more, and that number drops considerably for everyone else.

even some relatively big name schools like Tennessee and Wisconsin would be somewhere under $5,000 per student athlete.

Guess you have been in hiding? WBB and ESPN just signed a new deal. Guess what started that process? WBB Final Four monster ratings.

up that to just $35k and you're down to only 5 schools that can do that.

ESPN signed a deal with the ncaa for the tights to televise 40 women championships.
How much goes to WBB? How much does to the “combatants”? That hasn’t been divulged, but it is worth 115 Million dollars per year.

There are many sports that are not profitable, due to lack of widespread public support. Are you saying none of them are entertaining, due to the financial nature?

why do they NOT have more widespread public support?
do people sit at home and say "man, this is some entertaining shite, but I still ain't watching"?
you ever watch volleyball, lacross, basically any Olympic sport? Are you saying if it's not one of the Big Three, it's not entertaining? If so, I will disagree with you on that. To me, 'basketball' is a very successful and entertaining sport, enough that lots of people who can't play still watch it. "Women's basketball" is just a subset of it. There's a couple rule variations, but the average basketball fan can turn on a women's game and follow it without any problem... because it's still 'basketball'. They still call travelling and double dribble, they still score 2 pts, 3 for long shots, and 1 for a free throw.

The LSU , SOUTH CAROLINA WBB game had more viewers than the MIAMI Heat BOSTON CELTICs game... That exposure is priceless.

It’s women’s basketball.

There’s nothing hardwired about women’s basketball that should make it unwatchable and not make money. It’s profitable in other countries and people like it. We just haven’t gotten over our hang-ups in the US yet but the numbers are improving. You gotta spend money to make money.

No way the women's basketball team is losing money starting this year. Guarantee Kim Mulkey will be operating in the black as long as she is here.

WBB often loses the most money of any sport within the department. Not just at LSU. And that is going to continue to be the case.

Mulkey's big salary is a poor investment from a strictly business sense in terms.. However, it's hard to accurately measure the intrinsic value of the notoriety she's brought to LSU with her performance to date.

The new deal is a lot more money for the non-revenue sports but it is just for the NCAA championships (postseason). They considered giving wbb their own deal but left it as is for now.

This should reduce the losses of some of the non-revenue sports but not likely make them profitable. Might make LSU baseball profitable, or at least break even, on a consistent basis. Dunno.

All of them do (FB, X, etc).

I think lsu has the biggest social media following in the NCAA.

Are they monetized? Are they actually turning the following into tangible dollars?

the problem with womens basketball is it is the same rules and everything as mens basketball. They just play it at a level that isn't entertaining to any average fan of basketball, just like a high school team. I don't go paying money to go watch Catholic High play, nor woudl i watch some high school glorified AAU game on ESPN.

Softball has entertainment b/c while it's similar to baseball, the strategy of how its played is different b/c there are different rules and equipment.
gymnastics has entertainment b/c it's something girls grow up doing and will support and it's not a popular guy sport, but guys find gymnasts hot.

another popular womens sport is volleyball. the only form of it that's entertaining is beach volleyball, b/c of the sex appeal. If you've ever watched a college mens volleyball team, it'll be extremely hard to enjoy a womens volleyball game again.

The only way for a womens sport to be entertaining is for it to be played differently than the mens sport, and/or have sex appeal.

Look, i understand you can make money on twitter and what not, but how is LSU specifically making money from it, and where is it going? Shouldnt' that show up on the report?
