If Kim and WBB couldn't turn a profit last year, then they never will. What's worse is that they're a sucking drain off the fiscal hygiene of LSU athletics.

Title 9 is the order of the day, I get (kige?) that. Why not replace cash-sucking WBB with less costly womens' sports, perhaps badminton or competition jacks?

this. If Mulkey gets a new basketball arena built it's far worth it. Hope she turns LSU women's basketball intoUConn and Gino Auriemma

I don't think some people understand the impact of a school's enrollment when they have great sports programs. I remember how Saban's reign at Bama turned a shithole in Tuscaloosa into a booming area. The city and especially the university itself got massive gains for a sport being elite. Out of state students are the ones that really impact your financials.

Why does a college basketball team (men or women) need to turn a profit?

Yeah. The Bama campus boomed with Saban at UA. Huge donations to the school, facility upgrades in football and huge enrollment increases. Saban was worth every penny he was paid. If Mulkey gets a new basketball arena, she is worth every penny she has made at LSU. Common sense

LSU set admissions records the past 3 straight years. Successful sports and national championships do have an impact. LSU had record breaking admissions last fall. One of our family members out of state is going to LSU, not just to get a degree, but sports played an important role in his decision because he loves LSU sports.

Why not just cut the seasons in half and schedule more home games? I mean how about somebody hire a damn accountant and do the math. I guess just like this country nobody gives a shite because it meets in this case title 9 requirements. fricking joke. Yep equality and diversity makes this country so much better.

Blame the NCAA TV contract for WBB (just recently renegotiated) which did not pay WBB near its worth for TV viewership and packaged it with all other non revenue sports. The new deal still packages it, but includes more money and also bonus money for teams in the tourney finally.

you ever watch volleyball, lacross, basically any Olympic sport? Are you saying if it's not one of the Big Three, it's not entertaining? If so, I will disagree with you on that.

I personally do not watch those sports because I do not find them entertaining.
I'm not saying they aren't played at a high level, just that most people do not enjoy watching them.
If people did enjoy watching them, then they WOULD watch.

costs money to make money. Mulkey and staff costs money

If your cost revenue ratio is 100% or higher, you're operating at a loss.

It says their expenses were roughly $10.5m and their revenue was $2.5m.

10.5 / 2.5 = 4.2 or 420%

Saying "it costs money to make money" in this context is dumb as shite.

"It costs me $10 to make this widget and I sell it for $5. But you know, 'it costs money to make money.'"

Without Kim Mulkey and 2 of her players, Amazon makes their NIL Docuseries at some other university.

You know, the one that's gonna be a glorified 6 hour commercial for every high school athlete about how awesome it is to go to LSU, win championships and get paid.

The effects of something like this cannot be overstated. This kind of exposure can't be bought.

The LSU , SOUTH CAROLINA WBB game had more viewers than the MIAMI Heat BOSTON CELTICs game... That exposure is priceless.

This. The reason WBB runs a deficit and MBB turned a minor profit is that we had no media revenue to speak of for WBB and MBB (despite being lousy) got its share of the SEC contract with ESPN.

Now there's a societal thing at play here. ESPN is the biggest yapper about women's sports but even they don't pay for it.

The only way women's sports will break out of this is with a good product and interesting players/coaches. LSU has all of that with Kim, Angel, HVL, etc. South Carolina has it with Dawn and her beasts and Caitlin Clark is providing it to Iowa.

But ultimately, ESPN has to decide to put it on the air and pay for it.

Hey I appreciate your post and agree, I just saw “MBB” and that’s my reaction to anything that involves the “MBB” and the garbage we put on the court. We are Kansas in reverse, settle down Project I gave you an upvote!
