from LR to NWA in a heartbeat if it weren’t 3 more hours from my family in Louisiana
luckily we stop off in North La to see family before we head to South La to see family.
If I would have known how nice it was in NWA I would have moved way before we did.

*also float the river uphere means kayak not tubing I learned

NW Arkansas has 4 seasons. We are right in the middle of a pretty long winter and it has snowed twice already with my pond frozen over. Today and tomorrow back up in the low 50's. But next week we back to below zero. Makes for fun times when you can hunt duck and deer in below zero and a week later catch trout in the Winter lasts a long time up here for a native south Louisianan. Spring is great. Summer is hot as hell and often the heat index rivals New Orleans. The Fall is Spectacular and my favorite time to fly fish. The changing of the leaves is variable in quality but so damn fun to fish among the cold water streams with the leaves changing all around. Thank you Lord for this!

Canoe for us back in the day. Always enjoyed floating when there was no need to use paddle except to guide around the occasional boulder. Floated several times right after a snow. Beautiful and deserted those days. It can get really crowded now but still a good day.

Please, if you bring it with you, then take it away, plus a few cans and wrappers left by someone else.

Yes. There is a lot of beautiful nature in Arkansas and once they get to know you, really down to earth folks. We spend 3-4 weeks a year in Mountain View and do some pickin and grinnin in "The Square".

Parents live just south of Mountain View. Back in the day, we used to drive by Grandpa Jones' house, just to get a glimpse of him. Actually met him a couple of times.

Hey man,

What rivers/creeks in NWA are best for fly fishing for trout? Looking to go up there this summer. I didn’t fish when I lived in Fayetteville so I am clueless.

Just be sure to land in the circle below. The rest of the state is a shite hole and we know why.

Southeast Arkansas is a hunters paradise but that’s the only attraction for that area.

Personal preference:

Bull shoals tailwater
Little Red
Spring river
Norfork (turbines are offline so flows are low)
Beaver tailwater

If you stay north of I30 between Texas and LR and North of Highway that runs up to NE Arkansas from Little Rock, you will be golden. The Delta area is very poor and South Arkansas is a poor pine tree farm. West Arkansas North of Texarkana is pretty rugged and very rural. North Central and Northwest Arkansas are beautiful.

The poverty levels increase the further south and east you go.

That’s the path we drive up from the coast. Next weekend…9.5 hour drive up to go watch Ark play basketball. FML.

Buffalo gnats are terrible around the White River Refuge.

Bad enough that my uncle was swelling up so bad that he had to go to the ER.

It is ironic considering the Southeast part of the state had more money and larger population than Northwest Arkansas in the past.

Yea I've driven that route many times. The scenery improves once you get past Little Rock.

If you want a really nice drive that gets off the interstate for the last hour of your drive, take the Pig Trail.

To take the Pig Trail, take exit 36 off of I40 at Ozark. Go North on Highway 23 to Highway 16 at Brashers. Go West on Highway 16 to Fayetteville. Takes a little over an hour and the scenery is A+++

Google Map Link to this route: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Bud+Walton+Arena,+1270+Nolan+Richardson+Dr,+Fayetteville,+AR+72701/Workman%E2%80%99s+Travel+Center,+3202+Pence+Ln,+Ozark,+AR+72949/@35.7723006,-94.3454229,10z/data=!4m19!4m18!1m10!1m1!1s0x87c96f51bcea74cf:0x38081565a405fe9!2m2!1d-94.1781312!2d36.0615386!3m4!1m2!1d-93.9649578!2d35.9333954!3s0x87c95be00393e2f3:0x3fc0de7c1636ca17!1m5!1m1!1s0x87cb8ca11b8883f9:0x7cdb7c0803403585!2m2!1d-93.864059!2d35.5238039!3e0?entry=ttu

On your way back home, take old Highway 71 from Fayetteville to 1-40 in Alma. More beautiful views.

Prior to I49, the Pig Trail was the route most college kids took to avoid the traffic on Highway 71.

I grew up in Camden Arkansas which is in about the middle of Southern Arkansas.

I'm very glad that I'm FROM Camden.
