That is exactly what I am implicating. Most folks will spend it with lifestyle creep and save little. Bigger house, better cars, better schools, better vacations, and poof your not retiring any faster than you did with lower income.

$200k and maybe your more disciplined because it isn't a giant amount after taxes. $500k and you can spend and still save. $300k is a middle ground where poor financial discipline can come into play.

I am speaking from experience, I am an investment advisor and see better savers sub $200k in income than I do with those earning in the $300k range. For the most part, those with upper incomes tend to be a good bit less disciplined than those with lower. Exceptions to each side, but many of the Drs and Lawyers I work with want to spend almost everything they make for large portions of their careers.

Might want to take a look at MGMA data. The average mean across all physician types is about $400k.

Screw that

I was a CFO of a 2B organization years ago. It was my dream years ago to get a job like that.

The pay for CFOs NEVER aligns with the stress, headaches and heartburn that come with the job. All of the engineers, sales teams and support groups push every single problem to accounting.

Heck - the top quartile of sales guys and gals were making 35% more than me and living a much less stressed life.

Now, if a sales member missed quota in a quarter they were on probation - if they missed it the next quarter, no bonus, miss it a third quarter, you are fired.

So, job stability was a bit better.

I would see sales guys and gals hit huge bonus then be gone by fall the next year. It is ruthless

Why are you asking specifically about $300k. Is that the new $100k?

Seems to be that way.

Yeah I’m catching downvotes for it but you can absolutely, realistically, expect to make $300k+ in insurance and/or as a financial advisor.

It’s not starting pay, obviously and there is a ton of turnover early, but if you’ve been in either field for 15+ years, that income is well within reach.

$300K in W2 income will feel very taxed.

You are definitely right but there's not that many jobs for that, it would be a kinda ridiculous job to expect to make that say to go to college for. Unless you know someone, are a famous athlete (college QB), etc. I look at my town and there are probably a handful of Insurance and Finance people making that (under 10) and way more business owners and doctors.

Given that, no BS, IMO the easiest way right now if you aren't Wallstreet/ doctor/ top tech smart as in least education is to own a trades company. If you learned a trade around 18 and could get to the point of having 4-5+ field hands working for you and 2-3 office ladies by mid 30s you are on cruise control.

Reps in rare disease routinely make over $300K. This doesn't include annual stock options, car allowance, etc.

Why would you exclude options, RSUs, etc.? That becomes a primary driver of compensation for folks at senior level positions (I would argue Dir+ but especially VP+).

My point was that options/RSU's, etc were not inclusive of the $300K. They are in addition. .....although not nearly as much so as that of senior level staff.
