I know because they tell me. Your friends will tell you anything.
Do you have any?

Anybody ever stop for a moment to think that maybe these unions are pricing themselves out of jobs and making it much more appealing for manufacturers to pay subsistence wages to foreign workers to produce their products? Big Macs cost more at McDonalds where the minimum wage has been raised to $15.00/hr and employees have been let go to cut labor costs. Same thing happens in other businesses and industries as well when the cost of labor exceeds its value.
By the same token, teachers with tenure and teachers' unions backing them don't have students who perform well, and UAW workers who use their unions to make demands of their employers with no fear of repercussion turn out lower quality products. As long as they get theirs, they don't give a shite about the quality of their product they produce.

I’ve always, and especially now as an older father of young kids, prioritized quality time over “more money” and things. So I definitely don’t maximize my earning capacity. But I have a good income and income-producing investments, and we live frugally. We hardly eat out at all. Our trips are to see family or we camp. No luxury items at all.
However, just our credit card bills every month would absolutely sink the average wage earner. Granted, some of it is rental property and business expense, and I put anything that doesn’t have a transaction fee over my credit card cash-back benefits. But still. I feel like we live sort of on the edge of stability. In my 23d year of the same profession, which started with a great job.
We’ve been blessed and have worked hard. But I look back at any little misstep or misfortune that very easily could have occurred and… i would be a ward of the state.
My focus the past several years has been a rational “prepping” for debt-free simple self-sustenance should this house of cards collapse.
On one hand, there’s nothing new under the sun. Go back to any other time and only a handful of rulers and elite would live the way we do. But the unsustainable environment we’re in now was largely preventable.

Literally all of the data points to a serious problem, which means while no one knows, it's likely that unless you are and live around super rich, most people around you are making bad financial decisions.
Earlier this year it was that most Americans had no ability to pay a $15,000 emergency.
And also that net worth for millennial was less than $150,000. Etc.
On top of the what $45k average salary...it's mindblowing to see airports for every weekend, or people vacationing everywhere.

This has always been one of the more perplexing things to me as well.

I remember a couple months ago you were denying consumer debt being up. While also saying something to the effect of “if you aren’t doing well in this economy, it’s your own fault, look at the S&P”
It could just be that you are wrong, or in denial about the overall state of the economy.

(ETA: I don't have any CC debt, either, but I have a pretty healthy mortgage payment.)

Had a LPN I work with tell me that she overdrafted her checking acct and had no money til next paycheck but already spent 2k on Christmas gifts for her 5 kids and just thinking about how she can spend more. Spending has become an addiction for people

There are lots of free vids on Youtube to see this shite.
I am partial to Can't Pay? We'll Take It Away and Till Debt Do Us Part, but both are kind of outdated. Watch some Caleb Hammer videos and get shocked as to what's going on for normal people. They even have the occasional high earner that translates more to the OT self perception.

How do you "let" CC debt "go", exactly?
Well...you see...there are these secret programs the credit card companies don't want you to know about that can eliminate that debt.
They have radio commercials about it and everything.

I stand on that for sure. If you don’t like your situation there’s plenty of opportunities for you to improve it. Man up and quit bitching and maybe you can make something of yourself. Or is that too hard?

Let’s be honest here, you are rooting for things to be bad. Weirdo.
