I brought my birth certificate, current drivers license and a bill with my name and address on it. They copied each one.

Got one years ago as I fly occasionally. Then they keep pushing back the date for it to be required. I think it's sometime in 2025 now.

The name of web is LOUIE and you need a real Birth certificate not a copy. Whats funny is I have had the same drivers lic for 54 years ,so how is it thats not enough? Just the govt making you spend another $35 for a birth cert.

I talked to someone who works at DMV and they entered a lot of the data incorrectly which invalidates the entire reason for Real ID.

I got it but it wasn’t without problems….
I had to go back home and pull up two utility bills on line with my name and place of residence. Can’t remember the last time we had utility bills mailed to the house. I tried using the title of my vehicle and my driver’s renewal letter which both have my current address, lady there said those won’t work. I needed a bill, either from a credit card company or utility companies.
My driver’s license just has my middle initial and my SSI card has my full name. They told me that was an issue. I had to present my 2022 W2 with my name, that has my middle initial, that, of course, has my SSI number.
I also had to present proof of insurance of my vehicle, which I thought was odd. I asked her, what if someone doesn’t own a vehicle, and she gave me some bs answer.
I also gave her a notarized copy of my birth certificate, which was totally fine. I did it at a title/ license plate place that also does driver’s license renewals, not the DMV.

Federal Real ID Act of 2005 was a delayed response to September 11th. The government thought it was a good idea to make it harder for terrorists to use fake ids for travel or to enter government buildings. Of course, bureaucracy made everything worse, and it took 15 years to implement...which gave people time to get ahead of it...so it's just an exercise in futility now.

I tried to use my vehicle registration as proof or residency once and they said that they couldn't use it because it came from them...

True story. I brought my passport when I went to get mine. Lady told me I needed either my birth certificate or my social security card in addition to my pass port. I reminded her that I literally had to submit both of those documents to get the passport. I had to fricking leave and go home and get my damn social security card.
I hate the DMV.
