Looking for creative solutions.

We have a 48-inch built in GE profile refrigerator with nice cabinets built around it. Have tried everything to repair it, but it needs a new control board which is no longer made by GE. At this point I am looking at just getting new fridge, but any built-in this size costs minimum 10k. While I like the look, we certainly need just basic refrigeration and can't pay 10k. Is there anything I can do for 2k or less that can fit in this space?

We had a 42” built in that crapped out. I rebuilt the cabinet around the area and built a book shelf on one side (by the door and was just a panel of bare cabinet wood before).

We also painted all the cabinets when I rebuilt it.

new control board

Are you sure? A relay went out on the control board for my brother's oven. A new relay cost $11 and a new control board was $150.

Check eBay for the control board, or even Amazon.

Been there, done that with my GE Appliances

Check that control board. Had some brown outs roll thru and fried ours. I believe it was $60 and a youtube video and we were up and running in less than an hour.

ETA: If you dont want to mess with that and just looking for space, we also built something similar with some outlets in the back. Think my wife called it an appliance pantry or some shite. Basically you take your microwave and stuff off your counters to free up space and put it in there. Works well.
