Would you be willing to be absolutely terrible for 2-3 years to blow it all up and rebuild

I'm about at that point. But the only way out due to our salary cap situation is a total blow up and multi-year rebuild, which probably means a couple of 2-15, 3-14 type seasons.
Try to keep a couple of the younger defensive stars, but dump everyone else that has value. Take the cap hit. Be terrible. Build back the offense through the draft.

We should have done this a few years ago.

Its what needs to be done.
It will suck. we will bitch about it every sunday all offseason, we will bitch more the following year. Fans won't go to games.

saints have put a band aid on a bullet hole and they are bleeding out. 3 years of rebuild time is nothing like spending decades in mediocrity. they have a choice.

Willing or not that’s a very possible outcome in the near term only without being able to really rebuild

If we have the right coaching staff in place sure, but with any of CSP's staff hanging around we are not going to build a successful team.

This shoujd have been done once Brees retired. Exactly why I said to do exactly what Tampa did. Sign a vet free agent for no more than 5 million a year until our cap situation was under control. Instead we dig ten feet deeper with Carr.

We should have torn it down to the studs, traded everyone we could, and dealt with the cap pain now.
Have DA be a tank commander for 3 years, rotate QBs you either draft or vets like Baker.
And then fire DA when you're ready to start to get back and go all in for a QB.
But Loomis wanted to tread water and keep his job for a few more years without a lot of work

Correct.
Should have been done immediately after Brees retired or at the very least when Peyton left.
It has to happen sometime and with all the terrible contracts we have on the books it makes sense to do it now. The fans need some kind of hope and that hope is not going to come from the product on the field today.

Yes. I'd rather suck and have a potential light at the end of the tunnel then be stuck in this terrible mediocre purgatory.

Yes. It's easy to say because it's not my money but my opinion on moving guys like Kamara and Thomas (though not sure if MT has value) has even changed.

We didn’t need to trade everyone. Just not sign big money free agents like Honey Badger, Maye, and Carr. The dead cap contracts would have came off the books within the next year or two.
Instead we pushed more into the future to sign these players. We could have just signed Bridgewater or Dalton and have the same record as we do now.
Next coach will have an old roster that is stuck with Carr and be cap strapped.

Its a risk, but at this rate you're in pro sports no man land. No man land = Bad for fans, great for owners.
Good enough to make playoffs/wild card.
Bad enough to never win and lose out on elite prospects.

I am not convinced the roster is the problem.

100% yes. I'd rather suck and draft high than go 8-9 or 9-8 every year with Derek Fricking Carr as my QB

I think from the posters here in the off season it was a majority wish. I believe it's a bigger majority now lol

Willing? The saints are absolutely terrible lol

Problem with this is because of how the contracts are set-up, you can't just start getting rid of players and you have to restructure a lot of the deals on the books to get under the cap over the next 2 years. You basically have to be willing to suck for ~3 years, then you can start the rebuilding process over the 2-3 years after that.
As fans, knowing the ultimate goal will be to bet back to being a legit team in ~5years, we would all go for it. However, the coaching staff & front office know they would not survive those 5 years so they will continue to make decisions that are in their best interests and figure out a way to sign the next big name next offseason.

Yes. Just as I have been for the last few years. Let’s get this party started.
Not sure it will ever happen with snake oil loomis continuing his grift of self preservation for the foreseeable future though.
