Our department lost a LPN that was making sub-30k per year

All BS aside, what part of the world is a licensed nurse making less than 30K a year in today’s world? I know traveling CNA’S that are making close to 100K a year right now.

For many years the medical system was composed of private practice physicians with hospital privileges. They saw patients in their clinic and made rounds in the hospital. Then the government injected tons of money and said “know what we will pay you more for outpatient treatment in a hospital than in a private clinic” this drove hospitals to hire doctors and build massive systems. That is now all starting fail. So I’d say your assumption and conclusion are completely incorrect.

This has exactly nothing to do with the fact that physicians are not taught business while in school. And hospital admins in general have formal business education.

i guess it depends where you are, cost of living would be higher in some cities in those states than most places in LA.

Just find it funny that no one from the DEI department was cut. I’d like to see a list of their accomplishments and how that contributed to the success of the organization.

Also nothing having to do with that fact:

Physician-run hospitals tend to perform better

Not surprising, considering they were building out like there was no tomorrow. A clinic or hospital on every street corner. Few people realize they're a non-profit.

Something tells me you know exactly what's going on. Even though you won't admit it because you tend to pop into threads like this and speak in a cryptic code, I bet you know that cutting rank and file en masse frees up Oschner to then bring on a boatload of physicians for the massive benefits under one umbrella, then in turn Oschner will be gobbling up their next prey like a physicians owned Women's and Children's for example. It's why you're latching on to the physicians-run link when you know there are deeper ulterior motives at play.

There are too many VPs and unnecessary management positions. Also people getting paid to do nothing. They should have done this a while back.

If they did enough of this, there would be money available for appropriate direct patient care staffing e.g. safe nursing-patient ratios, and more nurses aides.

Are you saying there isn’t a single physician with independent or learned business acumen? Seems far fetched

In south east LA I know NP’s that start at $80k so $160k in this area is pretty good.

And this article speaks solely to quality and whether physicians, patients, etc. "like" the hospital and feel like it's good. Not one single time is financial viability mentioned. My guess would be that there are strong board members and a strong business knowledgeable COO and CFO.

jumping in here to say: I don't know what you are saying. What are the ulterior motives, and what is it that's "really going on" here?

And not a single talk about financial performance in the entire measurement in that article….. Figures

Doctors are good at quality care, making a financially stable product not so much

It is difficult for these two to co-exist in today's environment. Everybody is chasing the margins they made 20 years ago. Ain't happening today.
