One major edit: Mazda's dealership network is an absolute joke. Your best bet if you want a Mazda is to find a larger dealer network that also has a Mazda outlet. You have some cats that have a Mazda dealership that would never have another brand, and it shows. Hyundai has dealt with this, as well.
I’ve not had to find out.
Toyota >>>> Mazda

They don't make the Mazda6 at all anymore.
It’s back next year. Will be on the CX-90 chassis. Which means rear drive, inline 6….basically a 5 series BMW that actually lasts.

Can’t be worse than Hyundai. Most of their dealers are horrible.

This is a timely thread for me, I'm thinking of buying in the next few months possibly. The two cars I'm considering are the Corolla or the Mazda 3. I like the look of the Mazda better but the Corolla is a little more affordable.
One question I have is do you guys think the prices are going to drop moving forward or more incentives offered? I think there was a thread a few weeks ago suggesting this.

Go check out a Mazda CX 90 with the turbo inline 6. We got a large aSUV but if we were in the market for midsize, it beats the others.
The cx90 looks really nice. A family hauler with an enthusiasts powertrain.

I drive my cars until the wheels fall off. I’ve had a Honda Civic last 24 years and got taken off the road due to an accident.
I have had a Honda accord which lasted 21 years and got taken off the road due to an accident
I have had a Mazda 626 which was a good car for the first 150 thousand miles but miles 160,000 to 175,000 the car, had all kinds of problems.
Hondas and Toyotas just last longer

Toyota Corollas are the world’s most fascinating car. They are either falling apart, held together with duct tape driving as fast as its four-banger can manage, or it’s in immaculate condition being driven slower than any driving instructor would recommend.

When my wife needed a new car, I considered and researched all three. If this was just 4-5 years ago, I would have landed on Toyota. Instead I got her a new CX-50 turbo. We love it. The fit and finish of new Mazdas are head and shoulders above anything from Toyota and Honda. When you sit in the new Mazda models, it just feels different these days. They are not the Mazdas of old. Also, dealing with the dealership was a much better experience than I have had in years. Sure wish they would make trucks.

Honda hasn’t slipped much. My brother got a new crv hybrid sport a few weeks ago. Very nice vehicle. My wife has previous generation CRV and is a very solid vehicle
Wife has a '14 CRV that she bought new.
My only complaints would be that even in the top trim it's still fairly basic looking on the inside and the tech is a tiny bit behind other brands.
However, even if it's a bit dull looks wise its still nice enough to ride/drive in and it does have AWD which is always nice to have if we're up in Colorado during the winter. We've never had a mechanical a problem w/it.
If my wife wasn't so dead set on keeping my Grand Cherokee when we eventually trade her CRV in for a mini-van we'd probably drive it until its wheels fell off.

I’ve had 4 Toyotas, my last 4 vehicles. I put way North of a half million miles. The only major repair, an A/C compressor, cost me $525. The Tacoma has one of the better resale values of anything on the road today. I bought a new 2021, traded in my 2019, they had my trade-in listed for more than I paid for my 2021. My friend owns the dealership. Toyota are just better on value, dependability, resale value.
My family has had 3 CRV’s, at one time it was the most dependable vehicle on the road.
My relatives own a Subaru dealership, they are really nice, I’ve use one of those, it too ranks high in value, owner satisfaction, dependability.

I fall into the I don’t really care about cars, so I like Toyota. I’ve never had an issue with a Toyota, I drive cars for at least 10 years so I just want the thing to get me where I’m going.
I just bought a Honda Odyssey and it is the best car I’ve ever owned. If you have kids 2 or more kids, a minivan is so clearly the best car to own and I thought the Honda drove much, much better than the Sienna for what it’s worth.

You’re very, very unlikely to get a lemon with either Toyota, Honda, or Mazda. All high quality cars.
I’m not so certain of Hyundai. I think this engine immobilizer issue shows the Korean brands will still cut corners. Great warranty, though.

Mazda is easily superior these days.

Budget concerns were a major factor in my decision making process also and I just did not like the way the Corolla felt. To me, it felt way too small and more like a cheap car. I spent a little extra and got a 2019 Camry. I'm very satisfied with my choice.

My family currently owns all three. I still drive a Mazda that's been one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. 8 year old Mazda 6 that was assembled in Japan. 120k miles.
Just routine maintenance, that's reasonable even at the dealer.
No recalls (that I recall)
No warranty work
Hasn't burned out a single bulb even.
I've also had good experience with Hondas but they've had more issues. Same with the Toyota truck I have. No real issues but it's not perfect like the Mazda.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Mazda. Bonus points for a manual, but they've avoided the CVTs and the ridiculous 10 speed transmissions. And you can get one that's not turbo charged. They are definitely more "old school." That mighbe be because they don't have the resources...but that's a win to me (keep it simple.)
We just got an Acura and it seems like it is very high quality...but there's so much technology on it, 10 speed trans, turbos, etc that there's no way it will hold up like a simpler vehicle.

I owned a Mazda. Mazda is like a prettier Honda, but falling short in the performance department. Toyota, generally is a more reliable vehicle, but lacking in aesthetics.
If you want a comfortable vehicle with less performance - Mazda.
If you want a reliable vehicle and don't care about performance - Toyota.

Mazda for a gas engine. Consider a Toyota hybrid as an alternative. Toyota Hybrids have more torque, gas mileage and a better warranty.
