In general, how do Mazda vehicles stack up compared to Toyota? Honda? Hyundai?
TIA for comments.

Mazda is superior to those vehicles IMO. Honda has really slipped. Toyotas have never appealed to me, at all. It's the brand for people who say "I really don't care about cars."

Mazda has caught up to both in recent years in terms of reliability ratings. They're way more fun to drive than Toyotas or Hondas in my experience too, but they don't offer nearly as many types of vehicles so they aren't close to the market share.

OP said nothing about reliability in his question.

Depends on platform.
Trucks? Easy, Toyota as they are only ones with them of the three (Ridgeline is not a truck).
SUVs? Further depends on usage. 4Runner is by itself vs the other two as they don’t have comparable vehicles. The Pilot, CRV, etc vs the Mazda offerings would be out of my purview.
Sedans, Camry/Corolla, Accord/Civic are the standards of the industry.

My previous job had Mazda 3's and some sort of little Mazda mini van. I've driven both and they seem pretty decent. Mechanically they held up. I got hit in one of their 3's and it crumpled the car pretty bad but I came out without a scratch. The car was totaled but the crumple zones did their job.
Now my current job uses Toyota Corolla's. I have a 2022 XLE. It's a little nicer than the base, fake leather, sunroof, heated seats, etc. To me it feels like that car would last forever. I drive it like I stole it and I also get free gas so zero fricks and I can't make that car get less than 35mpg. It's crazy efficient. The only thing I really don't like is the center console cupholder area is too small and all the charger ports are in the console and not on the dash. I would absolutely buy a Corolla for my kids first car in a heartbeat, it's just a bit small for my 6' tall self.
My mom has a Hyundai SUV and has had a fair amount of trouble with it, mainly sensors throwing dash lights.
I recently had a Nissan Sentra from enterprise as a rental and it was a load of shite.
Honestly, the Mazda seemed more sporty but the Toyota seems to give that last forever feeling. Looks wise, I would go with Honda.

I drive a Mazda CX5 2020, and have nothing but positive reviews. handles great. Was 2020 car of the year. I love it, and it fits my needs.
Wife drives a 2020 Honda Pilot. Son had a Honda accord. Both were very dependable and pleasant to drive.
No mechanical issues with either.

I have a Mazda. I much preferred the Toyota I had before. My Toyota was just more reliable, especially for a person who puts a lot of miles and is generally hard on vehicles. I’ll probably buy Toyota again on my next go round.

And I gave an overall opinion. The reliability difference between those three brands is negligible.

I recently owned a Mazda for almost 4 years. It was a great vehicle. I didn’t have a single problem with it. Would still have it if I didn’t need a truck instead.
But anyway, what I liked most about it was the fit and finish. The interior materials also seemed a couple notches above its competition.
Also worth noting is that Mazda is trying to move up market. A nice thing about that is the dealership level of service easily beats those other manufacturers you mentioned.

Mazda is pretty easily the best value of those 3.
You get 95% of what toyota gives you for like 70% of the price.
Toyota makes a good car but you pay a premium for it. As others have said Honda has fallen off the last 5 or so years. Still good but their rep is better than reality. Not sure about 2023 models but for a while a lot of their vehicles were only available with cvt transmissions.

I have owned 4 Mazdas over the years and they were all extremely reliable. They are way more sporty feeling than most other cars in their class.
The newest models have interiors that shite all over most other vehicles and especially Toyota and Honda

I have a 2018 Mazda 3 with 220k miles and a handful of 2020-2021 Toyotas with 60-100k miles. The Mazda has been bulletproof so far. The interior is definitely showing its wear but it runs like a charm. Toyota interiors have held up to the wear as compared to the Mazda.

This should be emphasized. I own a Honda and a Subaru. Every time I do business with that Honda dealership, they're trying to upsell me on something.
The Subaru dealership is amazing in comparison. Mazda is not Subaru, but it sounds like they're trying to do similar things.
A Toyota dealership? I cannot imaging dealing with such a place. They must be absolute shark tanks. Hell, Toyota's "full court press" advertising alone scares me off sufficiently.
Don't deal with Toyota, OP. You deserve more out of life. I don't know you, but you posted 3 or 4 coherent, mostly grammatical sentences and that's evidence enough for me.

Bought a 2021 Cx5 carbon turbo for my kid. after a couple thousand miles it started drinking oil. Like. 2 qts in 3000 miles. They had a TSB for and oil consumption test. They said they thought it was a valve stem seal issue affecting a limited run of engines. They didn’t have the fix at the time but I knew it would involve reworking the head which I thought was ridiculous for a new car. We traded in for a new civic touring in early 2022 while we could get almost all of our $ back on trade. That’s my limited Mazda experience

Honda hasn’t slipped much. My brother got a new crv hybrid sport a few weeks ago. Very nice vehicle. My wife has previous generation CRV and is a very solid vehicle

Toyota will never have the frills of other brands. They just work. I have a bland 2020 Tundra and my company vehicle is a 2018 Tacoma. Neither have had any issues.
