still qualified for over 90% disability while also being allowed to work a full-time job. Look up what that pays each month for life with a spouse and children.
I know someone I served with who claimed PTSD(neither one of us have ever been deployed) and he's getting an extra $900/month and can work full time.

I hope you are joking. All fun to poke each other in sports but when united for team America, Aggies rank amongst the best.

And a Probationary Police Officer in Chicago starts off at $54K per year.

what was the point then?
To show that active duty military members are not compensated like any other job. They are severely underpaid. Especially in the first 4-6 years.

I come from a military family and am a combat vet myself as is my brother and parents. I joined because I fricked off in college and had no other choices. If it weren't for my vet disability plates, you wouldn’t know that I served. I dislike being thanked for my service because despite being deployed, I mostly drank and banged whores. I don’t need recognition at a ball game or a discount at a business.

yeah, well you werent paid by the hour. you were paid a salary, and you knew what that salary was when you signed up.
The biggest difference is in the civilian world you can drag up and go down the road where they are paying $1 more per diem if you don't like the working conditions.

lol ok. you have a free room, free food, issued uniforms, free healthcare, and 30 paid days of leave a year, all with virtually no barriers to entry assuming you have finished high school and meet the physical requirements. essentially ZERO cost of living - phone, internet, maybe a vehicle is all you really even need to spend your own money on.
how much do YOU think a first term enlistee should get paid?

how many troops do you hear about getting out of combat and going to jail?
None, because the media doesnt report on military justice and because people in jail don't run to the media.

Now do a person paid 10 dollars an hour that doesn't get free room and board and healthcare that is also paying taxes to those people

That is an extremely low number of vets.
You don't lose your legs looking at a screen in Kansas

Given the lack of combat, right now you are likely correct.
Get back to me when the US starts sending loads of troops overseas again.

then find me some verified stories from the GWOT era of guys refusing to go into combat and getting sent to jail
i know of plenty guys that refused to deploy or refused to go into combat, and not a single one that went to jail

or looking at screens in Iraq and Afghanistan for that matter. the vast majority of troops who deployed into combat zones never even faced a life or death situation.

Yes. I am an fully capable (physically) veteran and don't even use veterans discounts or anything else.
I did it because I felt that serving was the right thing for me. It was an honor and a sacrifice and I'm not going to cheapen it by turning my veteran status into a ploy to get discounts and closer parking.
I did it because it was the right thing for me, nothing more.
