Looking for recommendations on a reasonable substitute. Nobody seems to have them in stock. It was a sweet little piece. Perfect size. G27 Subcompact | .40 S&

For the record, I know very little about sidearms. This one was recommended to me. Fired maybe 30-40 rounds. Meanwhile, heading down to the local PD tomorrow to get it listed in the database.

Don't buy a 40 cal again. Get a 9mm w/ some 124 HPs.

If you want to stock with Glock, get a 43x or a Shadow Systems Cr920.

Otherwise look at Sig p365 or a Springfield Hellcat.

Truck gun...

Taurus 3G or 3GC.

Under 300. Great gun. Saw a 5000 round review. No fails. Guy at work bought 2. Shoots well. Taurus moved to Florida and those 3G guns are great.

I like the glock 43x size so wife can shoot. Paired with the shield arms mag you get a great size glock and a 15 round magazine.

Where are you located? I know where there's a g27 only fired a few times someone would part with, probably some ammo too.

9mm is probably better option. Look k to Glock 19, 43, 45

If you want 40 cal then get the G29 in 10mm so you can shoot 40 as well

Glock 26 is what you need. The 40 cal wouldnt be my choice. It is the same as your stolen 27 and you will be comfortable with it. All Glock double stack mags and drums will fit it.
I have a custom Glock 27 in stock with match grade barrel, battle worn slide and an Apex trigger. I believe it also has a flared magwell installed.
Contact Styx River Shooting Center in Robertsdale AL for info and pics. We can ship it to you. I believe it is listed around 750 bucks. I can get you a Glock 26 for around 569 bucks.

I've got one I was thinking about selling. Are you in Louisiana?

Someone else said it, but I also highly recommend the g43 for concealed carry.

You had a 16 yr old gun you shot two mags through…why even get another one?

There’s very little chance you’d ever be able to get that gun out of the console, rack the slide, and put one on target before the immediate threat had the draw on you. Are you thinking you’d be a vigilante, see something happening in the distance and go save the day? Just run them over with your truck.

As far as a recommendation of a new gun… it really depends on what you want to use it for. There’s no reason to have a subcompact unless you intend to conceal it. If you’re going to keep it on your nightstand, in your truck, or open carry it, you’re going to want something full size. If you’re set on .40, that would be the G22, but as I mentioned, .40 is tougher to control and shoot accurately, especially for someone who doesn’t practice often. That being said, full size will be easier to be control than a sub compact.

I would recommend 9mm for a variety of reasons. If you’re into Glock, that would be a G17.

If you intend to carry concealed at some point, then you might want to look at some of the smaller sub compacts as others have mentioned. There are plenty of single stack sub compact 9mms that are easy to conceal, easy to shoot, and have decent capacity.

Bottom line is, if it’s a gun that’s gonna stay in the truck or home, or be open carried, make sure it is full sized. If you want to conceal, then look at sub compacts.

Edit: As other have mentioned, it’s not ideal to have a gun that doesn’t have a round in the chamber. But it is your preference. If you do keep a round in the chamber, make sure it is in some type of holster where the trigger is protected.

I’ve got a 27 and really don’t care for it. My EDC is a G19 and yes I carry it to and from the truck everyday. If you’re looking for concealment, the 43X is a great weapon. Easy to wear on the waist, as it’s skinnier than that G27, and has more capacity. At the end of the day, what matters is what’s comfortable for you.

15-20 years ago there were reasons to buy .40 caliber. Back then people still believed in "knockdown power" with handguns.

With the advances since then in ammo design, good 9mm ammo (such as Federal HST and Speer Gold Dots) will do anything virtually anything a .40 will do - and do it with less muzzle flip.

A few comments:
There is nothing wrong with the .40 S&W, it is a great defensive round. I carried G-22, G-27 and G-35 for many years. It does take a little more training to get accustomed to the different feel of the recoil, but I no longer feel any problem. While the greater chamber pressure does increase wear, most people do not shoot enough for it to matter anytime soon.
If you have ammo availability issues, a .9mm barrel can be purchased for just over $100 and you could shoot both calibers conveniently.
Keeping a gun in your car risks loss of that gun, but more than that issue is that I would worry about how my gun might be misused by the criminals who had it in the future. My guns ride my hip into the house - every time. It would really bother me for one of my guns to be out on the streets.
