I’ve never paid attention to how this works but how would Alabama be a part of the last 4 in but get a #3 seed and not a #4 seed?

Same reason last teams in the NCAA Basketball Tournament get #11/12 seeds and not #16. Automatic qualifier teams from bad conferences get all the #4 seeds and most of the lower #3 seeds.

Coppin State, Long Island, Maine, Rider, Columbia, Army, Florida A&M, etc.

Same way it works in March Madness.

Shitty conference champs get an auto-bid but are seeded lower

Teams that get auto bids in from low end conferences with poor resumes occupy the 4 seeds.

Way too slow.
