East being shite, and the location to GA, VA, TN, and northern Florida. They are right smack dab in the middle of this hotbed. As well as they always seem to get some absolute beats from SC out of high school.

They are fighting with Clemson, obviously but with them being in different conferences it really is not as big a factor as in Mississippi.

-in the SEC

-in the East which has to be appealing

-work for a former coach like Ray Tanner

-Solid facilities

-good fan support

-great pay

-Likely to be more patient with a coach and not fire him as quick as others

-Not AS high of expectations as some other big SEC jobs, although they are high.

There is no such thing as a bad job in the SEC (save Vandy). I don’t think SCAR is a tier 1 or tier 2 job within the conference, but I think they compare favorably to programs such as a K-State or Iowa. Not a lot of history, but have a few solid seasons in the last decade. SCAR has the money to spend, but I believe they are t-3rd best open job (with Maryland) at the moment. They need to lock up one of the big-2 (Herman or Fuente) before other teams start calling.

Not totally off base, but i'm a UGA alum and a BigTen football fan and i'd put USC over Iowa and KState any day. Similar histories, but both Kansas and Iowa are talent poor as compared to South Carolina.

Plus, its the SEC east. USC is a good job now and the coaches they have gotten to fill it the past 2 times its been open really bear that out.

We can agree that SCAR is a good job, not disputing that. In terms of recruiting ground versus the aforementioned teams, consider the other side of the coin. SCAR has more talent resources but also faces more competition. I'm not going to argue the talent disparity, numbers speak for themselves. However, I'd rather recruit the state of Texas and the Midwest than go head-to-head against the likes of Clemson, UGA, Auburn, Bama, Florida, Florida St, etc.

UNC is another team that is comparable. Both have good fan bases, access to great HS talent, and has the money to throw around. My point, SCAR is an uphill battle for any coach. The coaches you mentioned failed to deliver a title so I find it a hard sell.

Again, good job but it has a self inflated value.

UNC has turrible fan support in football.

And how do you define tiers 1 and 2 if USC isn't in either?

You're purposely downplaying us, and I don't know why. The support the UNC fans and administration put behind their football team is NOT comparable to South Carolina. The only reason they still have fans attending their games are because they're halfway decent this season. Normally UNC football games are at about 50% capacity at this time of year, and they're already focused on basketball. If SC and UNC were competing to hire the same coaches, the only reason one would choose UNC is because it's easier in the ACC.

The money, fan support, and recruiting effectiveness of SC easily make it the better job.

The lack of titles doesn't mean that the 2010 - 2014 seasons didn't happen. The foundation to succeed is in place at SC. Coaches will care about what is in place for them to work with NOW, not what was accomplished 30 years ago. It is entirely plausible to think that a coach will look at what can be accomplished at SC and want to be the one who brings us our first SEC championship.

Spurrier accomplished a lot here while arguably giving minimal effort in terms of recruiting and overall control of the program. As long as our next coach has a young, fiery ambition, we'll be fine.

Don't your students have to bus to football games because it's almost 2 miles away?

People forget that SC was able to hire Steve Spurrier in 2004 when our facilities weren't even a 1/10th of what they are now. Talk about the unlikeliest of hires.

Spurrier went to SC because he wanted back in the SEC and Florida hired Meyer.

Not at all. Believe it or not South Carolina is one of the few SEC teams I can tolerate.

Bingo. Isn’t that why we’re playing this hypothetical game? UNC’s path to a more National presence isn’t nearly as in intensive as SCAR. They have access to the same recruiting base.

I think you’re correct on the first part, but this is a what have you done for lately league. Spurrier didn’t leave a bunch of All-Americans in Columbia. The talent disparity between ’10-’14 and today is night and day. You would be hard pressed to argue. Rock Hill hasn’t produce those impact players the last few years and SCAR recruiting in suburban Atlanta has been underwhelming. Going head to head with the teams I mentioned in the above post proved difficult for a HOF coach.

There is a rebuilding job in Columbia, SC. Back to the OP, SCAR is a good job.

The most effort Spurrier put into recruiting was doing the cha cha slide with Lattimore's mom. Other than that he didn't do shite.

And we were still able to go head to head against Bama, Auburn, Tennessee and UGA for some big time recruits when our recruiting coordinator wasn't Spurrier's incompetent son. Hell we even got a couple recruits going head to head against some of those teams even after Bubba became recruiting coordinator.

Then why would UGA be Tier 1? Tenn and Aub both won a BCS, Aub has a more recent SECCG and aTm hasn't done shite, not even won a division in the SEC before?

Can you provide some reasons why they wouldn’t be? I’ve seen some reputable CF Analyst call it a top 10, top 5 and even the best job in the nation. I’d also be willing to bet most knowledgable SEC fans would agree with my assessment.

AtM has the money, facilities, endowment, all of the above. Not to mention they’re in the most talent rich state in the United States.

So has Colorado and GA Tech. Are you implying they are better jobs than UGA?
