The "best" job doesn't change depending on decades IMO. I think LSU is a great job, but when you talk top schools in the country, LSU isn't one of the first schools mentioned. It's not outside the top 15, so it's up there and will compete for titles.

I dunno I have it probably right around that 10 line

I'd have us tied at 7 with FSU.

Notre Dame can gtfo of that list.

And today it's more about recruiting than a schools history, though our history isn't too shabby. These guys saying we are delusional to put LSU in top 3-5 don't know much about college football coaches.

wrong every time it comes up that we should fire miles we are consistently mentioned as a top destination job.

we are closer to top 5 than top 10.

I think 6 is a fair non homer ranking if we have to put everyone in an order.

id put recruiting area as the top bill for a coach. Then pay which we show we are willing to pay as much as anyone.

It is.

Texas/Bama/Ohio St/USC are unquestionably better than LSU as a destination site and have all of history to tell us that.
I disagree. History is history. The 1970 landscape of college football has no baring on today. Hell, the 2000 landcape is miles apart from where college football is today

6-10 is very fair and realistic

Pay is a given for LSU since we give our head coach an open checkbook for his staff, added to our recruiting base and we are number 2. Texas is ahead of us on my list because they have more money, the other schools who I put below LSU are all interchangeable, but aren't above LSU simply because they don't have sole control of their recruiting area.

If anyone doubts our spot in the top 5, just do some research and listen to what people all over the country say about the LSU opportunity.

20 years ago LSU would never have dreamed about paying a coach top money. A program like houston wouldnt dream of paying a coach either.

Now, Houston is paying a coach 3 million a year. It is silly and illogical to use prior history to rank the schools now. College football has done a complete 180

Well, wouldn't we rank #1 because LSU is the school w/o a head coach right now?

IMO the biggest knock on LSU is BR (compared to the other top schools on the list, save Bama).

For someone who is from outside of the state it is definitely different.. There is a whole lot of trashy in South LA. Some people handle it better than others.

Absolutely! We are the top job available and will be top job available unless Texas is hiring.

I think you have your list of premier schools and the great histories of each school but I feel like it doesn't matter as long as it's of that caliber. Every coach knows he has the opportunity to build a dynasty there

This is why we get laughed at...

Its truly amazing how jaded some of our fans have become. Im gonna go out on a limb and say "iluvlsusports" is 20-30 years old and has never known CFB w/o LSU as a dominant program.

Realistically I think LSU is top 10, rank them wherever u want to as long as u dont really believe LSU is a top 1-3 anything after that is debatable. I'd put them at 6:

1. Bama
2. Texas
3. OSU
4. USC
5. Florida
6. LSU
7. UGA
8. Tenn
9. Michigan, FSU,Oklahoma,TA&M,Auburn,Notre Dame

I could easily see where someone could argue that 6-13 teams could be arranged in a different order but the same teams.

It's really hard to rank 1-10 like that. Tiers are a better way IMO.

Bama, Texas, Florida, Southern California, Ohio state, Michigan

That's your top tier. People will complain about Florida being in that list until you look at how often Florida wins the SEC east and the rich recruiting area they sit in. Texas honestly shouldn't be in it, but their egos won't allow them to admit it, so their willingness to pay an insane amount of money, a great recruiting base and a weak conference keep them there.

After that it gets harder.

2nd tier is LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Florida state, Oklahoma, Georgia IMO.

Notre Dame is sliding down the list and is on the verge of being tier 3. Oregon will be tier 3 after Knight's influence wanes.

If you made me rank the 2nd tier I'd have FSU and LSU tied at the top of it, they're clearly above the rest at this point, but also clearly below tier 1.

They were talking about this on college sports Sirius/XM radio this morning. Most coaches believe it the best job in the nation when you factor in recruiting in state no power five school in state along with top notch facilities. The things we already know. I do believe it's a top 5 job these days and not like 20 years ago when we were coming onto the scene

Every single analyst and coach disagrees with you. It is a top 5 job no question.

No other program had a higher coaches salary than LSU and no one pays their assistants more. Recruiting gold mine, top level facilities, and a solely independent athletic program that profits better than anyone in the nation.

Those aren't subjective. Those are identifiable facts and there is a reason you will hear this job be touted as one of the tops in the nation.

You would be wrong, very wrong about my age. It amazes me how some of our own fans have let the Alabama perception of LSU cloud their thinking. The rest of the country views LSU from something other than Crimson lenses. You should try it sometime.
