You don't make a hire like this in 48 hours as a backup plan after you lose #1. Doesn't work like that and I'm pretty sure BK would've told us to frick right off if that was the play. You know coaches have egos not to mention he had an opportunity this season to win a NC in ND.

BK was his #1. The LSU to Riley stuff was floated by his agent to make USC up the ante which is what they did by giving him the best deal of any coach in NCAA?

The LR to LSU rumors were just that. Rumors. Woodward wasn’t pursuing LR. It was always BK. LR and BK have the same agent so he leaked out the LR to LSU and BK to USC so if it came up in an interview they would flat deny it all the while both were making deals with the opposite teams.

This was masterfully pulled off.

Look, I understand everyone’s fascination with the process and getting a look behind the curtain. I want to know too.

That said, at this point, it doesn’t matter if he was our 1st choice or 7th choice….we made a great hire!
