I'm sure there were many others that influenced that decision.

While there were some who had O as first choice the decision was to go for Herman, it appears it was Aleva alone who pulled the plug on the negotiation at 5:30 A.M.

Having done M and A for years it is clear JA does not know how to negotiate.

Negotiations are based on a win win for both parties.

IF a deal was truly in place the proper response in the next step of negotiation was for JA to say... blah, blah, blah
.

It might help your M&A career if you study up on the difference between negotiations and agreements. One requires good faith and stops once the other has been reached.

Joe knew it was going nowhere. Herman was all-in Texas from day 1 and he should have known it.

Liar, liar pants on fire. No deal, no sources, no insiders. Alleva said he only offered one person the job and that was Coach O. He did not engage in a serious coaching search. He and LSU look as incompetent as can be. We can't get who we want in 2 months yet Texas does it all in half a day. Our administration is pathetic.

You forgot other AD's and league commissioners. He's like the video game on display at the toy store. Everyone plays him.

I don't know if a $7 million offer and total control lands Herman, but could we at least try?

You think a guy who loses to Navy, SMU and Memphis when he has a more talented team deserves to make as much as Nick Saban?

Saban led all coaches in salary in USA Today's survey last year, at $7,087,481.

I buy it all. Alleva is a soft, sorry excuse of an AD. Did he think he wouldn't have to negotiate for one of the hottest coaches in the country right now? That Herman wouldn't want to hear more than one offer? He should've negotiated to the point of Herman declining but instead he chose to show everyone he was exactly what we have been saying he was... A damn joke! If the powers that be can't see that this idiot is gonna cost this program dearly then there really isn't much hope for the future. Somebody needs to punch that little troll Ponamsky in the face the next time they see him for helping make this happen. That's what pisses me off the most. This supposed "binder" that impressed these asshats so much wasn't even put together by O! It's like he knowingly paid a little nerd to do his homework and the teacher gave him an A++ anyways.

Now alleva decides to grow some balls.

FML so hard. This is infuriating.

Agree with TDaT. Tell sexton we are offering the $6 if you are taking it. And if they don't, you announce to the media that you won't be making an offer to Herman. Then you go about your business interviewing other candidates. If you ultimately decide on O you will at least then be able to say you vetted everyone. Not just two dudes who had no intention of coming.
Offering to O immediately only took away leverage for Herman and Fisher but that is really irrelevant to LSU. Or should have been.

I would say that's exactly what happened. O was shocked at 5am Saturday with the call I truly believe that. Alleva knew a bidding war would end up in failure and we would then look like we were "stuck with O" so he hurried up and made it appear as though we "chose O". Alleva said numerous times he refused to get in bigging war. That's very passive aggressive comment about what happened.

I agree with El Sid. This is exactly how it should have gone down. I swear let's not forget Aleva is the guy who threw the Duke Lacrosse guys under the bus. Why was he hired to begin with? Throw the bum out on his ear!

I'm not sure if it's true but if for some reason it is you don't want him. A man is only as good as his word. A deal is a deal. That's what's wrong with people everything has to envolve lawyers because most men don't have a word you can trust and they will go back on their word.
