If you want to hear all your options, do it before you give someone your word. Once you give your word, back it up. And if you don't, you shouldn't be trusted to lead others.

This is why I don't quite buy this...Alleva knew he was playing a losing game. So instead of bidding, losing to Texas, and showing up with O as your runner up prize (a terrible one at that), you paint the picture that Herman is not a man of integrity and you picked the guy dying for this job to further endear him to the fans.

I really think Alleva doesn't have a clue. They were absolutely going to pay Jimbo upwards of 7 mil. So you cap Herman at 5? Doesn't compute. Also he lied about saying the job was only offered to one person...O. That's complete BS

They had 2-3 offers for Sexton/Jimbo and they kept moving the goalposts on Joe. Joe got pissed and moved on to Herman and had a deal for 5 that was going to be inked Friday night. Armstrong leaked it and Joe got butthurt so I guess he didn't wanna help them get more $$ from Texas. But if you really wanted him, I mean really wanted him, when Armstrong calls at 5AM Saturday and says make it 6 and were on a plane down there you have to say yes and let the cards fall as they may

You mean like when O committed to Les Miles but then took a job with Kiffin at UT?

Uh, what risks? Orgeron wasn't going anywhere. We literally could've waited till January and still hire Orgeron if nobody else wanted it.

esp think of the image hit Alleva and LSUnwould have taken if the scenario i articulated actually played out

Oh, the risk of public perception?? We've been the laughing stock of college football since the Miles debacle last year. If anything we look even more incompetent now.

After hearing Armstrong say that Herman wanted to hear what Texas had to say, Alleva should have said " ok, our offer is now 10 million."

After Texas announces that Strong is staying, he then calls Armstrong and says " never mind, I have a coach who really wants to be here."

No reason the schools can't play the game by the rules the coaches and agents make.

Ah, the old appeal to accomplishment fallacy.

What's ironic is you're implying that Alleva is qualified for his job in the first place.

Wrong again!

LINK

quote:

Looking back, Orgeron says not a lot of people know how close he came to going to LSU instead of Tennessee in 2008. He met with LSU coach Les Miles about a job after Lane Kiffin and his father, Monte, put the hard sell on Orgeron while he was vacationing with his family in Destin, Florida.

Lounging with his wife and kids while sorting through his opportunities, Orgeron texted Miles a dollar figure that he says was "way up there." He didn't hear back from Miles that night and finalized his decision to go to Tennessee. Early the next morning, he got on a plane headed to Knoxville, where he'd be introduced as part of the Vols' staff.

"As soon as I landed, all these texts from Coach Miles started popping in wanting to know if I could be in Baton Rouge by 1 p.m.," Orgeron says. "But it was too late. I couldn't turn back then."

Yeah, the real problem was not firing Les last year. Texas wasn't open last year so probably could've gotten Herman. Or anyone else.

Nothing is implied.
It can be assumed but it is not implied. You know what they say about when you assume...?

So is everyone still believing what they read? There was no shortage of people claiming to know thing leading up to the bombshell that was dropped, and now no shortage of people claiming to now know what "really" went down. I think it's all bullshite. I don't kow what to believe. I'm actually about 90% sure that Coach O is the next HC, but wouldn't be too shocked to suddenly hear that he really isn't the new coach and somethnic crazy like Bill Parcells is hired.
