Riley isn't even talking to LSU, because Stoops has shown interest in the job. LR would never undercut Bob. Ever.

And recruiting LA will help.

This.
And since Oklahoma is moving to the SEC, they’ll have to start recruiting against not only Texas, but against aTm again, Arky again, and LSU. Not a lot of recruits around Oklahoma, except in North TX. Even then, they will have to fight for those against the other powerhouses (including Alabama).

La. kids tend to stay home for the most part. That helps immensely. Not only that, but we’re always in it for TX, Fla, Ga, Miss, Al recruits.

The brand of “Oklahoma” mattered more when it was an easy path to the playoffs. Those days are over!

Don’t know. Do you? I’m just making the argument that taking a job might be about more than $ to someone making millions of dollars.

It is a good question and one I think that needs to be addressed by Woodward.

We offered Marcus freeman more than ND and he still chose ND. Sometime it isn't about money

The thing is, he was gonna choose LSU, it was his wife who told him no, the reason for saying no, she met Ed when she was there and she saw the leaked picture of him in bed with a woman. And she told Marcus “I don’t want you working for that man”

OU could pay a coach 20 mil a year before they had the coaching expenses LSU does with Orgeron. Not to mention OU has far more booster money than LSU and it’s not close. OU has nearly as many billionaire boosters as Aggie and Texas. It’s absurd amounts of oil money and a barrel of oil is about to go over $120 a barrel. Also it was confirmed Riley was on the practice field today while thats plane was en route to Baton Rouge.

None of that means shite

Harvard could pay more for a football coach than anyone.

How much you are WILLING to pay is the key

Exactly this. there’s a reasonable limit on the market for coaches. If lsu offered $15m, would Oklahoma offer $20m? If lsu offered $20m, would Oklahoma do 25? If lsu offered $100m per year, would Oklahoma do $105m?

These theoretical maximums a school could pay are irrelevant. Appetite to pay and stay within non-insane territory are what matter.

OU would pay whatever for Riley. He’s got a heisman QB who’s a freshman. top 5 class in 2022 coming in, and the number 1 class in 2023 with probably the most offensive talent ever in one class. OU isn’t letting him go anywhere.

No, they wouldn’t. No school is going to match *any* number another school throws out, unless it’s within reason.

Would they match $15m/year, which I see as the extreme upper limit right now? Maybe. But I don’t think that’s a foregone conclusion.

It’s why all this talk of billionaire boosters is dumb. Are you going to pay a coach a billion? No.

Today was the first day I heard this mentioned on OKC Sports radio. A caller brought it up and the host (the man, the myth, the legend, the Ultimate Jim Traber) immediately scoffed and said it's LSU message-board rumors and has 0 chance of happening.

Me: smells like a little smoke

Jim traber doesn’t know shite about frick. Riley is not leaving for LSU. He turned down the fricking Dallas cowboys. If LSU was smart they would go for somebody like Kendal Briles for 5 mil

Dallas and Oklahoma are too similar: neither of them will win a championship.

LSU on the other hand…he saw the 2019 team. And he knows that could be him every year.

Louisiana ran out of oil ? so I guess we don't have any oil money to spend, what to do, what to do
